Has / is anyone working on a kit bash for a double high, 6" wide door for titan? I'm working on a cargo area, and I have some shipping containers I need to get through the door.

Well I sorrta made a door. It's not too pretty, but that is due to my lack of skills. I took the tall arch from Titan Control, then used part of the cargo bay from First Light (the roof I think). It is kind of like a large garage door. Anyway, it should work for my build. Here is what it looks like. |

I think that looks pretty cool! Try adding a drop-shadow under the Titan arch to help separate it a bit from the door part? You might also play around to remove the red glow at the tops of the door. I think it goes really well together. |

Great ! Especially as the arch is one of my bash Agreed with Mproteau, try adding a drop shadow to the arch and removing the red glow if possible, it would look even better ! |

Very nice! It would be nice it you could submit this - with and without the red glows ... and also without the door itself to simulate it being open [granted that's going to make a very flimsy wall]. Um... does a "drop shadow" mean what I think it means? |

Thanks for the kind words and great ideas. I had to Google how to do everything, since I'm new to gimp. How do I rotate an image? (googled it). How do I make something transparent? (Google again...) mproteau's guide () was really helpful. Does anyone have any good guides on how to add a drop shadow or remove or reduce the red? I'll give it a go. |

I use the progressive selection to create a shadow: Select the element that should drop a shadow Enlarge the selection by a few pixels Do a progressive selection Fill in black Move layer below the element... I know there is a tool to directly drop a shadow, but not in my version of photoshop. Don't know for Gimp... For the red light, you try to copy paste other parts of the door... |

Now, I'll try to walk you through how to do this in GIMP, but I am probably assuming you know things you may not. You're welcome to ask questions. Do you have the image in layers? If you don't have layers, things get a little harder. I'd recommend breaking your image up into layers, as it's both easier to work with AND easier to go back and make new kitbashes from when ideas pop into your head. Assuming you have two layers - one which is the arch and one which is the door: 1) Select the arch layer. 2) Filters menu > Light and Shadow > Drop Shadow... That'll bring up the "Drop Shadow" dialog box that lets you control what direction, color etc. Set "Offset X" to 0 and click OK. That should create a new layer titled "Drop Shadow" beneath the layer you had selected. Select the arch layer again, and do the drop shadow filter again. This time, change Offset X to 0 and Offset Y to -8 (I assume it was 8 before). The reason I'd do it twice like that is that the first time, it'll aim the shadow DOWN, which will look great on the top half of the wall, but you won't see anything on the bottom half. The second time it will create a shadow aiming UP, which will look great on the bottom half of the wall, but you won't see anything on the top half. Now, you can go and delete any extra shadow bits that may have appeared. If that was all greek to you, I can either try to explain more, or give you some buzz words to use to pull up some YouTube videos. Definitely you'll like GIMP more if you become really familiar with: 1) Layers 2) Layer Masks 3) The Clone Tool! |

It's great to hear someone else is getting into the kitbash game! Mods: You might want to move this topic to the kitbash forum. Anyway, about layers. You can move them up and down, and you can make them visible or not. When you paste something into GIMP, the pasted thing becomes a floating layer that needs to be anchored somewhere. By default, if you simply click outside the pasted area, it will usually anchor to whatever layer was selected. Alternatively, you can right-click on the floating layer (in the layer panel) and tell it to make a new layer. I often promote pasted things to new layers if only so that I can move it around and get it just right without making a mess of something else. If you want to combine two layers, make them visible and make sure there are no other visible layers between them. Then, right-click on the layer that you would like to merge down into another layer, and select Merge Down. It'll combine it with the next visible layer beneath it. For getting rid of the glow, I think the clone tool will be your best bet. Once you get the hang of the clone tool, you will be a kitbashing master! |

I could not get the clone tool to work for some reason so I did a copy/past thing. Here is the latest result. I kept the red lights on the bottom so the cargo bots wouldn't run into the doors |

Well, see now - that looks great! You've got a bit of drop shadow around the kitbash header that you might want to remove... The copy/paste thing seems to have worked a treat. I see most little copy/paste coverups as a job for the clone tool, but that doesn't mean it's the only way to solve a problem, does it! If you want to learn more about cloning, just ask. But, it seems like you've got enough of a start to be dangerous! |
