I have to start off by first saying that I absolutely love hinterland TLX. I love the textures, ease of storage, the infinite possibilities. In a recent game though I ran into a problem. We were playing LOTR and we were using woods. I happily set down my trees and off to playing we went. However LOTR like most games requires there to be a boundry marking the edge of woods. I have seen this done with everything from cut out wood bases to felt. But I hate mixing non paper elements with paper terrain. I looked through the set and the closest tile I could find to use was one with just a plain dirt patch, but it really lacked that woodsy leaves all over the ground look because it was surrounded on all four sides by grass lacked continuity. I would love to see in a future expansion a set of tiles that would allow you to simulate the borders of woods needed by most miniature games, or if anyone else has any ideas I would love to hear them

They had the perfect base in the original Hinterland. It was a 7 inch tree topper tile. I am surprised it was not included as tile in the TLX to act as a topper tile for large forest areas.

After looking back at the TLX release, you could make a foamcore area that is forest tope it with grass land tiles with sides trimmed off and rim the tile with big tree base edging. that would mark the area of the woods and you could place trees on it for visual appeal.

The tree walls are one of my favorite parts of the set and make great looking woods, but for gameplay woods need to have a defined boundry, as not only LOS but also movement are affected by them. The tree wall is great in that you can have a real looking woods and then lift them out of the way for troop placement, but the ground needs a defined boundry where the woods start and end. The idea of using of a foamcore base is a good one and the direction I am currently leaning toward, but I would still love to see a set of tiles that could be used to make a woods area on the board.

If you look at the textures on the tree bases (both the big and the simple trees), you will see that this is all grass. So I would advice to just take an all grass tile, glue it to foamcore (or mattboard), cut out the shape you want, and place your trees on there.

I think I am going to go now and finish my TLX conversion for islands, because I feel like I am living on one. And the games we play on this island must not be overly played on the worldworks mainland :)

I did find a solution to my problem, it just requires the aquistion of a TLX set which I do not yet have (a problem that I plan to quickly remedy) The diversity of Worldworks offering allows for so many options, yet another reason I love these products and worldworks games. I am quite excited about the solution and will post pictures upon completion (even if I am the only person that it will help) :wink:
