Well that tore it, just 2 weeks ago started doing a layout for Pathfinder and was printing out the sheets when my ink ran out. So I ordered new ink (Brother DCP-357C) and got it 5 days ago. I inserted the cartridges and all of a sudden magenta stops working. I read in the forums that the Brother HL-4040 CN is a good printer and look in ebay. There's only one on offer in Germany and it's used. The drum has still got over 74%, the transfer thingy has over 52%, the rest is over 90% (fixer, laser, etc.) and the colours have all got over 9200 pages left. They also throw in a new yellow cartridge. Well to put it bluntly, I just won the auction. For a paltry USD 110!! As soon as I pick it up next friday, my weekend is going to be full of paper and glue... Sorry, I just had to tell someone. |

Nice score. Fingers crossed that it's still got a lot of life left in it. |

I don't know anything about this particular printer model, but isn't 110 USD a bit much for a used product with no guarantee? And that's not even including s&h |

Give the guy a break - he's just tracked down a low cost laser printer that is great for cardstock terrain (the toner alone would cost a good chunk of what he paid for the printer). Like I said, just hope this one gives him a good long run for his money. |

Well considering a new one was roughly USD 380 here in europe and s&h is free as it is only 40 miles away, I am going to pick it up on friday. So I reckon I got a bargain |

May sound daft but have you tryed any off the cleaning/diagnostic routines on the old printer? |

Oh believe me, I've even taken the printer head out and soaked it. Anyway, it doesn't matter, the brother colour laser printer rocks! |
