Does anybody know if there is just a simple template (overlay) for creating terrainLinx tiles using other texture images to create your own terrainLinx styled tiles? |

the template is easy enough to create. After doing it twice for two different projects, I made the template. Probably took me a half hour. All I have to do now is put the wanted texture underneath and print. |

Hmm, what program would you use to do this? Preferably something free as I only plan to do a single conversion or two so I wouldn't want to drop cash into a pet project that may or may not succeed. Thank you! |

Load the relevant cut file into Studio and change the line colors to something like light grey and tell studio to print cut lines, then print to pdf. hope that helps BULL |

Yeah, like D&D 3+, TLX has become an subject lesson in the benefits and consequences of using standards in a highly creative industry. (In this post, the term 'standard' refers to the use of a standard model for creative products.) 1. Adopting a (good quality) standard allows for a rapid increase in creative output at lower cost. Customers get more creative products faster; suppliers can produce them at lower cost = Win (suppliers) / Win (customers). 2. Retaining exclusive control of the standard works well when the supplier is the creative and production powerhouse in the industry. Customers pay a bit more, but less than if there was no standard, and the higher effective margin to the supplier gives the resources to keep up with the creative demand from customers. = WIN (supplier/standard creator) / Win (customers). e.g. Lego 3. Open access to the standard reduces the cost to all suppliers and makes it easier for new entrants to join the market. The creator of the standard has a market lead; the benefits of which depend on whether or not they use this lead to establish sales/offering dominance in key market segments. This is great for customers and (assuming elasticity of demand) grows the market = WIN (customers) / win (suppliers) / potential Win (standard creator) E.g. D&D 3.5/OGL (WotC were in a Win position; and presumably adopted this approach because they realized the market was too diverse for WIN to be achievable.) 4. Retaining exclusive control when not the creative and production powerhouse in the industry leads to getting sidelined as customers move to suppliers (plural) that keep up with their demands for new products. E.g. TLX, D&D 4e (and inevitably 5e). If TLX was adopted as the market standard, WWG's existing TLX sets would give it a leading position in key areas, positioning it for the Win outlined under option 3. Michael Proteau investigated alternative cardstock terrain standards and concluded TLX was the best. If it was opened up to the market, its use by other suppliers would lead to more customers seek high quality TLX sets which would only be good for WWG. My personal opinion is that we should proceed on that basis, but that is not my decision to make. In the meanwhile, any work that makes TLX more accessible to customers seems like a good idea to me. |

While I agree with you on number 3 being the best choice, I do not think WWG should go this route right now. While I am a newer member I have a basic understanding of the situation goin on: WWG (or many of its main staff) have dived into a game development or something similar. They underestimated the time and cost (financially and other costs) and only realized too late. This has caused WWG terrain to take a back burner if not off the stove entirely to this newer project. Basically we are a ship running without it's captain. Until they either get back in command or give temporary command as I believe they are considering, this ship isn't going anywhere. Doing something like that right now would be tenamount to business suicide as while others progress we won't. Once WWG has it's current situation solved then I would deffinately say go for it. |

You aren't quite right. It as if WWG made custom drinks, and set up a machine to sell you bottles of his products, gradually expanding the flavors until they sold a nice variety. They let some people make things to put in the machine too, if they were the same kind of drinks, with the help of some volunteers like Talae. But nobody else can use their flavors. WWG has QUIT making new things, they all left to do something else (and even there, they aren't making anything or posting on their website), but the machine still works to sell you stuff. And nobody else can add stuff except little stuff, through the volunteers, for free. But the one thing they AREN'T doing is solving their current situation. Not posting, not producing product, here or there. So just waiting and hoping is, IMO, pointless. |

Right now though waiting and hoping is all we can do. It will either die or the situation is resolved and our "Ship" sails on selling our "Custom drinks" I didn't say that they are or are not trying to resolve it. I'm just saying that all we can do as consumers and supporters is batten down the hatches and wait until the storm passes or we sink. I for one though am making a life raft :3. Is it just me or is there way too much symbolism being used? |

If I said what I thought without using symbols I'd be banned. I wouldn't bother posting even using symbols except that I went to look at Cloudhead, where Denny and the gang went to create a game, and see the same lack of output and complete lack of communication, which saddens me so much that I had to cry out. Fat Dragon shambles on, and even Microtactix is still available, but WWG just withered away, and I'd be more accepting of that if they had managed to accomplish something by dumping WWG in front of the bus. And now we find out they don't want to let anybody else save WWG either. Words do not suffice to describe what I think, it is probably a good thing I live thousands of miles away from Cloudhead's offices or I'd be REALLY tempted to just knock on the door and start asking them all, "What the @#$%^&*!?" |

I was talking about in one post :3 lol. Though if WWG does actually die, store and all, I'm sure there would be lots of places to get the merchandise still. There's no shortage of people who love the terrain, I'm sure SOMEONE out there SOMEWHERE would pick up the torch again and run wild. Though they would either need permission from the original owner of the copyright or wait till it expires. How long would such a copyright last anyways? If he lets the site and all die then I'm sure that would be neglected eventually soon right? |
