So as you'll quickly discover Im new to Cardstock modeling, I've started off with a simple 12x6 house to build, I've made about two tiles so far and just started putting the anchors on one, it looks kinda..... eh? so i don't know if i did something wrong or Im just and idiot, heres some pics of what i mean. Also, here is a picture of all the stuff i use normally, am i missing anything? And my last question. Im using 3/16th foam core and I don't like the "fit", I looked all over town and I can't find 1/4th anywhere, is there some where you can order it and is that safe? or would it be delivered and be in poor condition? |

Welcome to the fold. As for your questions: -it looks like toner flaking to me. This is something that some laser printers do and I am unaware of anyway to fix that. -3/16" foamcore is completely compatible, but I feel your pain with it not fitting "snug." I have ordered foamcore online before, but have never found 1/4" to be at a pricepoint that is worth the investment. I personally just use 3/16" and think it is good enough, but to each their own. |

yep, looks like toner flaking. I use an inkjet so I don't see the issue. I can't suggest how to get around that, unless you have an inkjet you can try and use for the anchors I have accomodated for 3/16" foamcore by scoring the foldlines for the underside flap not on the line provided, but slightly "upwards" if that makes sense. I actually made a set of templates in GIMP to overlay all floor tiles so the "thickness" is what I need for the foamcore I get. |

Maybe you can use some clear flat spray after you print the sheets out (and let dry); I have been using this technique to protect the printed sheets from smearing ink, and it works out great for me. Edit: I use the same markers for edging!! Sharpie rules!! |

I had the same toner flaking problem (amongst other issues) with my Samsung CLP 300 laser printer...nice little printer, but really not so good for cardstock work. One thing I did try in the settings was to increase the temperature of the fuser...some lasers let you do this. it was not a complete fix, but it did get me building satisfactory models. I eventually gave up on the laser and switched to an ink jet with a CIS set. Much happier now, and it cost jhust a bit more than a full set of toner. |

AS others have said toner flack, I just edge the crease and try not to rub it to much till it "ages" in. There was a nice thread about using 3/16th vs 1/4. IT turns out all of Denny's demo builds are 3/16th. After you get the hang of building I found that 1/4 sides with 3/16 core and linx actually works out really nice for assembly and break down easy. |
