Hi all Not sure if this has been discussed before. I am playing with my first TLX build (Canals), building some docks for my Maiden build. I have just assembled a couple of 6" docks, on 6" dock walls and using 3 way posts to link them together. I was dubious about the stability without tile anchors, but once the dock railings went on, it all held together very snugly and I was pleased with the look. Then I tried to dissemble it and disaster struck. Of the 3 6" railings and 2 3" railings I was using, only one of the 3" railings came off without the terrainlinx tab pulling off the rail (and I was VERY careful to pull at the right point. That's an 80% failure rate, caused by my railing terrainlinx tabs fitting too snugly into the dock bases. Anyone else come across this ? Any tips on either my build technique (just followed the instructions, nothing bespoke) or my dissembling method (grasp the rail just above and below the tab and oh so gently pull) ? |

I've only done this a few times, but I use a pin stuck into the tab itself to take the railings off. It is a weak point, but repeated use should loosen them a bit. |

To help make mine stronger I made sure to glue the foamcore to both the tab and the rail itself. |

I'm thinking next time I make a rail, I'll remove the "score" line from the cut files, and just fold it instead. I've lost almost all of my railings when trying to remove them. The perforations of the robo cutter make it really easy for me to rip the railing right off. I've never had much luck gluing the foamcore edge to the railing - doesn't add enough strength. I might keep practicing that, in case it's just an issue with how I apply the glue. |

I use full strength wood glue to secure the tab to the railing. You could also 'work' the opening by inserting/removing a regular tab into the slot a few times, helps to make the opening a bit larger, to better accommodate the railing/tab sections. |

It can be a tight fit, it helps if the tabs are cut slightly smaller than intended and to disassemble the railings by pulling right where the tabs are. |

I was wary of the railings when I built them for Himmelvale Streets. I made a dedicated bridge section that I just left the rails on. |

Glad to hear it's not just me guys. I am going to make a few more railings this weekend with the tabs cut slightly smaller AND thinner than usual and see how this goes. |

Just a quick update on this. I built nine 6" railings this afternoon and took about 1mm of each side of the tabs AND shaved about 1/3rd of the thickness of each tab. The new railings slide in and out like a dream and although nowhere near as tight fitting as before, are certainly snug enough to stay on place. I am quite pleased with the solution. It's a bit more of a fiddly build (especially as I now have to hand cut the railings after they have been sillhouetted cut), but I am much happier. |
