Post subject:  how does TLX work?
Does the pdf just give you a mix of walls and base plates? Then you mix and match like Legos? Do they come with plans for a basic setup?

Im sure I can make the stuff no problem. Im worries about not being able to make cool scenes.

I have the same concerns with terraclips.

There are no suggested layouts for any of the TLX or Terraclips sets. You can get an idea of what is possible from looking at the promotional pictures of each of the sets. There is a TLX Planner that can be used to layout a build that will generate a printable list of the items needed to bulid the layout that you made using the TLX Planner.

The TLX and Terraclips sets were developed to give someone a lot of latitude in making a gameboard. You think of what would be a good layout for an encounter, then use the various sets to build it in 3D. There are a lot of imaginative and talented members on this board and if you peruse the different forums you will see a bunch of very nice builds.

That is what is good about WWG's products. Your imagination can go wild. :D :-?

Wow. That news makes me feel pretty overwhelmed. Let me try simple questions:

-can I just print out enough floor tiles to make a 3x3 Malifaux board?
-how does the elevated terrain attach? Does it just sit on the board?

Man, I don't even know how to start now. I was pretty excited but now that I know I have to design from scratch and my own imagination, Im pretty bummed.

Maybe Ill stick with terraclips.

Don't get overwhelmed. I suggest starting small, like one 6"x6" building, and build out from there.

Ok, I've had a chance to watch all the tutorial videos and that really REALLY helped a lot. I read the forums for hours over the last few days and it's one thing to read something, it's another to SEE something done.

For example, it totally made sense when I saw how the foam bases have slots for the tabs. Mentally, I thought they were just square. I also didn't know what the little paper flaps were all over the boards. It turns out that they are to support pillars and walls.

Ok, now I'm reinvigorated. I think I'll sketch some ideas and then use the TLX PLANNER software to do a layout.

Hey there zzzman! Don't feel bad, a lot of our customers feel slightly overwhelmed when they first try to get their heads around what are products are and what they can do. But don't worry! That's what the forums are for! Anything you want to know, just ask.

For starters, once you've got your hands on an actual set and had a chance to go over the tutorials, we recommend you start small. Build a couple of groundtiles, a few posts and some walls, enough to build one or two "rooms" basically. Once you're comfortable with the core process you'll see things start to come together for you very quickly.

My suggestion to you is to build the tavern/inn you play in all the time. You know what it looks like because you play there all the time. Then make that Magic Shop you got that shiny sword from. Maybe make that house that your character grew up in. Now, make the streets to connect them with. By the time you have done this your imagination will have taken over and you will be building for the next game.

Might also suggest you print out one page of each page in the set. By the time you have put that together you will realize the pieces you need more of, like the posts. Then you will want different walls. Then you will want certain street tiles. Then you will know what you want and will be off to the races. Won't take you long to realize you won't need as many wall pieces with that special map, or the bookshelf on it as you will those plain ones with nothing on them but the plaster. I like to print off a couple of dozen pages, cut them all, glue them all, cut them all some more, edge them and build until I got it right.
