Those are some helpful tips. For the tabs angle cutting the end should be very helpful. But keeping the sides of tabs near verticle gives the tabs more traction, which mean the tiles hold together better. I also use 3/16" foamcore so I know exactly what you mean. What I have taken to doing is just eyeballing the placement of the new score line. Its such a small difference anyway. Now this isn't as accurate as measuring, but its SO much faster. and if you score with something like and embossing sylus, has a small round ball rather than a sharp tip, that gives you a wider foldable area. |

I have always used a stylus type tool for scoring instead of making shallow cuts. Here are some of the scoring tools used. The top two are small crocheting needles that were enclosed in some scrap wood to make it easier on the hands, the bottom one is a commercial one that was snagged from somewhere (not quite sure where). I also have set of two plastic and metal ones that look kind of like the last one in the pic that gives four different size tips. The smaller tips are used exclusively, though. |

Yeah, the bottom one looks just like my embossing stylus. It can probably be found at any art store. |

For tried scoring with a 1.6 mm steel crochet hook and love it. Just as easy as scoring with the knife but stronger folds with no white "split". Flip the hook over and use the back side to score just like with a knife but a heavier pressure. You can pick one up for <$2 at any craft or sewing store. Highly recommend you try it. |
