After reading a large portion of the origional post it occurs to me that I may be on some grey areas if not completely in the wrong. I understand that filesharing between two people is piracy if both don't own the original content. Though I don't understand if that is limited to the internet or extends to the tangible world through usb or other means as well between two friends? And where the line is drawn.
Ill explain my situation and you can tell me if you feel that I am wronging you:
Me and a friend had joined into papercraft terrain years ago. For awhile we used other products from other makers. People joined and left and terrain came and gone. Eventually our group grew to 5 people and stabilized to now with me and the original friend and three others. We shared all the terrain made between us, save for the few special creations. It would not be odd for one to build a piece and it go home with another in the group after a game and another still after the next. This system worked for us well and for years that's how it went.
Eventually the original friend (Micheal) bought several items from your catalogue (Codename Titan and several others). Me and David were impressed and enjoyed the fine detail and complete modularity it offered. The other two in our group revealed that many of our favorite pieces they made were older sets and we eventually amassed a grand collection though buying and digging up old files on the other two computers.
Due to me being the only one with a working printer and with a large quantity of cardstock plus all of our crafting supplies I was elected to be the "Grand Librarian of WWG's Files" and such. The reason such a circumstance happened is we found we had duplication purchases in the group of the same product (which isn't needed as we share all the terrain) plus trying to figure out who has what and then find those files in their rats' nest of files was just a nightmare! Then the only other person who had an actual large quantity of cardstock had theirs turned into a litteral rat's nest (get the pun?) as he had a rat infestation. Tragedy loves company as the last game we played was in Micheal's garage. We all brought all of our terrain and pieces we were working on for a week of Warhammer 40k and our annual Appacolypse game with all our terrain and pieces. The only other two members with printers brought them and encouraged us to bring all our hobby knives, glue, ect. I had two sets, one fpr travel and one for home. Quite often I would bring unfinished terrain with me to games, so I got fed up of forgetting my blades and glue at another member's house and not have anything to work with when I got home, so I bought two. We had a wonderful first few days of gaming despite the storm. Unfortunately Micheals garage was broken into on the fourth night. Our armies were ok, nothing major that a repaint or super glue couldn't fix. But the rain from the storm through the open garage claimed all our paper terrain and one printer, the other being stolen and our crafting supplies destroyed or missing.
Here is where I think I may be outside your policies:
Due to all the above mentioned circumstances I was elected the "Grand Librarian of WWG's Files" What this means is whatever anyone buys or digs up in their files is sent to me to be collected and organized. Though I am not the actual "owner" of the item, I'm in charge of keeping it. We don't spread it to the other members and all have copies of the piece, only me and the original purchaser. This allows us to quickly, easily, and efficiently find what we need and print it up or see what we don't have and allow the others to buy what we decide on in a reliable, consistent organizational setting vs finding out who has what and tracking them down to dig through their files in their different organizational patterns or requesting them to print it up ect. Until the others get their replacement printers and supplies it's all done at my house. The way we look at it is that none of the terrain, or files in this case, are any one persons of the group. It is the group's collectively. Now if they wanted to take their files and leave its ok and they can do that, but what we want to avoid is two people buying the same set when only one needs to and the rest of the money can go to their army's pieces. We got into paper terrain for it's cost effectiveness and allowing us to work on our armies vs choosing one over the other.
If by any way you feel that we are wronging you we will stop and try to figure out how to get the same results in a different manner, or if you have a way you want us to do this differently than how we are then please let me know. Thank you!
