For those wanting to make 3inch wall boxes, I've got the dividers shrunk but have been having a scaling issue with the hangers guide, for some reason gimp is shrinking t when I export the pdf.

The way I'm making the 3" wall box is making a 6" wall box but putting a pair of hangers in the middle.

I'm not very handy with image editing so I highly doubt I'll get as far as changing the 6 on the top of the box to a 3

One word of warning though; some of the models are straying outside of the automated cutter crop marks (corner crops) which creates an issue if we do GSD's for these things. If you have to push things outside of that "safe cut zone" be sure its something that isn't vital to construction or can be safely short-cut.

I'm trying to keep all the important parts of the models inside the crop marks. There is one page with content outside the crop marks, but it can be safely short-cut.

I'm giving thought to designing modular boxes. Boxes will share one or two common frames and will be able to hold one or more "storage modules". For example, the left side of the box might have rails for holding 3" walls, while the right side contains a bin to hold TerrainLinx tabs. As the user's collection grows and he finds he needs more storage for 3" walls, he can remove the tab bin and insert a second set of rails.

While this might sound complicated, I think constructing such a box might not be much more work than building specific purpose boxes. The storage modules will also help reinforce the sides and bottom of the box, making the original "optional bottom reinforcement" panel unnecessary.

Sounds groovy to me I think that a few souls might prefer it that way while others might want purpose-built.

These are great! While my collection of TLX is rather meager right now I have about 20+ pages printed I still need to build for the local group.

Loving the idea of modular inserts, that would allow me to theme my boxes, so if I want I can put all my Dwarven posts and short walls together, rather than having them mixed.

I've made an empty bin insert (i.e., module) and I am working on an insert for posts. I use the jig on the last page of "hexplodinator 0.1" to hold the modules in place. If a user prefers a permanent box, they can glue the inserts down, and reuse the jigs in another box.

I've made five boxes so far -- three for tiles, and two for 6" walls.

I probably need about that many more before the collection *so far* is contained.

Curious, are there any GSD's for these yet?

You're really too kind, Denny. Thank you. My own attempts to make the box look professional served as a painful reminder of just what truly brilliant graphic designers you guys at WWG are.

If you're basically happy with the box, I will be sure to clean up some of the rough edges. In particular:

• Illustrated assembly instructions for each configuration.
• Design the sides of the box so that it is obvious when the lid is not secure
• Extra flaps on the top of the front and back panels to further reinforce the top edges of the box.
• Widen the lid a smidgen to accommodate the box lip reinforcement
• Make the legend at the top of each page consistent.
• Include the original 6" tile box in the package as an alternative to using the generic, empty box for storing 6" tiles.
• Document that the portion of the front panel that is outside the autocutter alignment marks is non-critical and can be safely cropped out of the model by an autocutter.
• Experiment: The top edge of the box is reinforced with flaps that fold inside the box to make the edge 2-ply. However, even 2-ply 110 lbs cardstock isn't nearly as sturdy as, say, a shoebox. The lid tends pop off because the sides of the box are prone to deform:
  
  Instead of folding these flaps inside the box, they could be folded outward like the terrainlinx wedged walls:
  
  The lid should fit better and it should be easier to insert snug components like 6" tiles.

Hexplodinator, you could use, foamcore for the box bottom and sides (one piece construction). There would be no deformation in that case and only one edge to glue. The size of the lid would need to be changed is all, but the secure stackable option this creates would make a lid uneccesary for all boxes except the top one. I believe there is 1/8" foamcore to be had, although the 3/16" is the common thickness available.

I started on a band that would go around a box as a way to keep the lids on when I travel. It's pretty simple, but effective way to keep the same design but have the lids more secure. You have to do the band in two pieces to keep it on an 8.5"x11" sheet, and you have to decide whether to make a cutout around the contents label on the top of the box, but that's all that is tricky about it.

That's interesting. How wide is the band?

Foamcore is an elegant solution and I bet it would look nicer than my ideas. It's an option for people who don't mind the extra material expense and construction time. It's too bad autocutters cannot do foamcore.

Maybe 2 inches. You fold it, glue it, and slip it over the box. In playing with it, there was enough friction that it didn't normally come off the box. While the boxes are home, there's no reason to use it, but when you're taking them to a game, it will keep the top on snugly.

When I'm home I'll try to take a picture of the one I mocked up.

I am a total newbi, I purchased streets and sewers about two months ago, and now I have over 80 floor tiles under my belt, and who knows how many walls, ramps stairs rails POSTS (f'n posts!) rails,...out of control. What have I gotten myself into? I love this stuff!! The way you guys take care of your customers is UNREAL. Not to mention the forums! Crazy. These boxs are yet another homerun by all of you. Thank you.

I have only put it togeather for one game, I built my adventure arround this setting and I'm sure most of you guys know what time is involved. And of course my first build only showed me what I was missing!!! Oh well, lets print another 40 pages. (color copies for 25c at UPS!!!) Anyway, the day will come soon that I am satisfied with it??? Thanks for nothing Thoumonts! (five guild houses yet to start building for my port town!) And, by the way, himmelveil has water problems. Cannals anyone? This might need a zip code before denny is done with me. Sorry, back to your point, I will take pics, but I want it finished (mostly) before I put it before the hardcore forum guys. I just saw the modular boxes. That is AMAZING work and I'm going to make some this week for sure to replace my bins that I made.

Baaa....boxes.. Do like me and eat dinner in the living room, so far we have 85 sq ft of dedicated gaming table in three rooms, build it and leave it out...one big monster dungeon. lol.
