I took the dive on the Thoumont's package after fooling about with WWG samples and having good luck. I'm excited to get started but the TLX instructions are...lacking, IMO. :)

The "generic instructions" are just that, very generic. I'm not sure what the difference is between "floors_6inch_down1" and "floors_6inch_down2". How do I use one or the other? Perhaps more importantly, why would I use one or the other?

I was anticipating the set coming with some basic sample instructions showing me how to build a basic building, understanding that the set is designed to be modular. But without the planning software, am I just stuck?

Consider this some feedback for a person brand new to the building hobby that things could be a bit clearer. When do I use a "1-way truss" versus a "2-way truss," for example?

The Thoumont's TLX is designed to be a modular version of the original Thoumont's set. As such, the floors are labeled accordingly. For a different layout, just ignore that part of the labeling.

A one way truss means that you can stick a roof section in on one side of the truss post. A two way truss gets sandwiched in between two roof sections (allowing for a longer roof).

The video at the bottom of the product page may help with gaps in instructions.

Thanks for the response! I have watched the tutorial (all of them, I think) and I understand the concept behind TLX and how they work. What I don't understand is specific to the Thoumont set.

For example, what's a "downstairs_1_inch" floor vs a "downstairs_1_point_5" floorset? Is one a 1.5" grid layout? (This literally just dawned on me.)

It's not very clear and with no sample instructions to build a basic building (from the Thoumont set) I feel like there's a lot of frustrating hours ahead of me.

Thank you everyone. I can certainly appreciate the time and effort that would be required to build comprehensive instructions for every set.

My thinking was more along the lines of "See this picture of this building we made? It is comprised of the following pieces." Boom. Essentially a cut list of components. That'd be enough for someone (me!) to take print those components out, assemble, and see how the sample building is constructed. From there, the sky's the limit.

Right now I've got a bunch of PDFs and no clear way as to what works with what. I'll cobble together the bases and the connectors (the instructions are very clear in this area) and take it from there.

If it helps, what I usually plan my builds around (as a D&D GM) is the maps in the adventure I'm running. I grab the map, use the TLX planner to make the map TLX-friendly, and then get to work constructing stuff.
