What is WWG's stance on completely original tilesets in TLX format?

Does creating a completely original set violate copyright laws? Do you accept submissions of complete and original sets? If so, what are the guidelines for submission?

IMHO, I believe that this system is by far the best system available for modular paper tilesets. However, if we are limited to the existing content, we really are limited to the usefulness of the product and we are shut off from the potential and creativity of all of the other users.

Yes, it is nice that we have access to these forums, but I see a lot of creations that I would love to be able to download, and I believe that I could submit some high quality content as well.

Have you given any thought into a subscription-based model that would allow users to upload their creations (for approval, of course) and then they could be shared by fellow subscribers?

Anyhow, just throwing some passing thoughts out there. I just see so much potential in the user community and would both hate to see it wasted and would love to make use of it as well as contribute. I think the community would flourish as a result.

Basically, you can modify stuff for your own purposes, but sharing it is a no-no. As for submitting, it is on a case-by-case basis and limited to complete sets. That goes for conversions of older products as well as creations of your own concoction.

Also, make sure and post pictures of anything you build. We all love to see that stuff.

Yeah, that answers my question then. They all basically fall under the same umbrella, which is too bad, really. There is a lot of creativity out there, especially in these forums.

The one thing I have noticed over the last couple of weeks is that there really isn't that much traffic here. I mean, the regulars poke their head in, but there really isn't much forum activity. If they went with a subscription model to access approved user-based content, I think this place would flourish.

The subscription base would have to be heavy up front to avoid joiners/droppers. So something along the lines of $50 up front for 6 months or a year access. Membership could even grant you 10-20% off of the official sets as well.

User submissions would then have to be submitted in a predetermined format, and then lightly reviewed by "the powers that be." Then the content would be provided to members "as-is."

I completely understand that WWG wants to protect their IP, but I think that this would completely enhance their product rather than hinder it. They may just be very comfortable in their niche, and that's fine. But I am currently unaware of any other similar product that offers this type of service and "open" architecture (pardon the pun). With the quality of their product, I think they are sitting on a gold mine.

The difficulty lies in people subscribing for a short period (one month) to gain access to a long period worth of content and then not continuing to subscribe and also not contribute.

This isn't even touching on other companies ripping off WWG.

I personally think, and have said before, that using a combination of the Steam model and the current model would be great. That was discussed as not being practical or necessarily feasible. Also, many people seemed to voice a negative opinion of it.

I think that some of what you are looking for will be in the TLX Planner software stuff and sharing layouts, etc. This doesn't help for custom graphics, but at least would whet one's appetite for sharing.

Honestly, I think something along the lines of the Superlink Program from Mutants and Masterminds 2e would work best - the basic idea of it is that any company can submit their works (original textures and the like) to Worldworks Games for approval for use with the TerrainLinX system (simultaneously promoting the original company and allowing for some of the great talents out there to use your stuff, with your approval), with the understanding that any new designs (for example, the 90 degree and Transition slopes from my Hinterlands megabash) would be open for use by WWG or anyone using the TerrainLinX License.
Honestly, I think this would make for the best of both worlds, and allow WWG to keep control of their product legally, and in a fashion that most companies would be happy to work with, while allowing for a great deal more creative effort from the industry at large.

Much of this will be dealt with under the umbrella of upcoming changes to the core website and a proper rebooting of the Kitbash area. I can't get into everything in the works right now but I can say that generally the new site will be more user-centric and the model more open in terms of submissions for kitbashes and or original user created content.

There is a possibility that we might consider licensing TerrainlinX to others in future, however some of that has crossover to undisclosed developments. We're about to unleash something that will once again change the game in a fairly substantial way.

That is why I said that they would need to have a heavy up front cost. 6 month to 1 year subscription.

My biggest concern is that I don't want to pour a ton of time into making custom content that only myself and my gaming group are able to enjoy. And to be able to save quite a bit of time by having access to other content made by other users.

My hat is off to WWG and the quality of this product. I just want to be able to enjoy it to its full potential.

And my apologies if I am coming off as confrontational at all. That is not my intent. I just want to make sure that I am in the right place and have the right understanding before moving forward with everything that I want to work on.

writing some campains and sharing them is what I'm looking for,(would also love to hear others!) Is that thread out there? I have a large art background, but no computer skilz I would love to partisipate in your pursuit, but can't find the "on" button. When will computers translate pencil?

I'm hoping after this summer (when big things are reportedly brewing) that Denny is able to get the new site/store up, and we'll see more traction on this. Having done a huge amount of work on converting Gothic Realms over (al....most....done....), and having bashed little pieces of other sets, I can definitely see the potential for a library of fan-created TLinx items, or even licensees doing TLinx work. Especially as that full sets are, frankly, a bitch to create, but singular elements or themed groups would be much simpler, and make the TLinx system that much more useful.

I think the expanded Kitbash area will likely cover most wants and needs here. There's no real need for a subscription model under that paradigm if we continue to charge a modest fee for hosting, managing and aggregating those submissions. The real trick is in getting consistent, dedicated oversight happening in terms of staffing it and keeping it going uninterrupted (which we are working on too )

A LOT of things are going to change over the next 3 months or so.
