I've been sitting here trying to figre out how to make ruined walls. You know the type. They apparently crumble down towards one corner, provide partial cover, etc. Then it struck me. it might be possible to make walls using transparencies. (Haven't tried it yet) Then you tweak the wall file with the crumbling wall effect. But since you are using transparencies, you still have the entire wall there for support and placement into the wall columns. (which may be able to be made out of transparencies as well.) I've not used transparencies during any of my builds, so please let me know if there are flaws I haven't thought of. |

Transparances have a few issues.... 1) they are expensive 2) At least mine have a tendency to smudge when rubbed 3) They don't glue quite the same as cardstock. When I want a ruined wall, I just build out a normal wall and then take the knife to it. After a bit of cutting, you edge and have a reasonal broken wall. Just be sure to leave at least one side of the wall tall enough to slip into a post and you should be fine. |

Yeah, nothing makes a wall look ruined like, well, taking a wall and having at with an X-Acto knife. The problem with using transparencies is that they are, well, they are transparent - the ink will make it look more like stained glass than it does stone or plaster. When ruining walls, some more things to bear in mind - * Follow further along any beams/timbers than you do along the standard wall, so it looks like the beams stood up to the damage. * When shattering windows, for the most part follow along the leading. * Follow along the bricks and/or stones, so it looks like the mortar has given way. * If you are doing a multi-storied ruin then remember that each floor needs supports on three outer points - but those points do not need to be connected. So three corners works, as does two corners and the middle of the third wall. The Auld Grump |
