I print off a bunch of random bits and build them. Then play around with the actual pieces to come up with a layout and decide what else I need. |

I have found that I don't use the Planner all that much - since it doesn't list how many of which walls are needed I have fallen back on using graph paper. My first (mostly unfinished) pieces have been four each of all the walls and base tiles of each of the sets. This is my 'core' for use in game, quick 'n' dirty. To this stockpile are added some permanent tiles - a 2x2 and a 3x3 town squares, there may be a 3x4 soon too - enough has been happening around Ha'penny Market that a lasting ground set would help. Plus, it can be pulled out for Mordheim. Specific builds are going to be separate - on top of the core. So the aerodock and the dwarf canals (steampunk for the former, Pathfinder for the latter) will be added to the stockpile, not drawn from the pile. Right now I am considering some streets without the tabs, for use as rolling terrain, with zombies. (The image in my mind is the PCs approaching a line of zombies. The PCs advance, the zombies advance, and the street behind them is filled with more zombies - rinse & repeat until the PCs realize just how many zombies there are, hopefully before they get enveloped.... Hey! I got a hundred an' twenty zombies in the mail today, why wouldn't I field 'em all? ![]() The Auld Grump |

What works for game layouts is very much the same for fleshing out particular settings or worlds you are trying to visualize for a book you are writing. Its like story boarding in 3D. I start with quick sketches and then look for particular paper engineering that I can re-purpose or add on to if needed. It is a toolbox approach to whatever I build. TLX blends right into that. I build 'parts', mix and match with other WWG sets and from other sources, including mixed media ... sculpting when needed. A sketch is just that, a starting point. 'Parts' are the key, your toolbox. With a stockpile of those you can create whatever you need as you flesh out your inspirations. IMHO |
