Post subject: | A Suggestion for Anchor Tab Page Layouts |
I have a small problem with the sheets for anchor tabs for the 6x6" tiles. On each sheet there are two sets of tabs, the middle tabs and the corner tabs. There are enough middle tabs for 3 sheets, but many more corner tabs. Currently (this is from memory) the layout of the anchor sheets is similar to this: MCC MCC MCC where M is a set of Middle tabs, and C is a set of Corner tabs. We can see that for each sheet there are twice as many corner tabs then middle tabs. For me, this tends to generate a lot of waste. What I'd suggest is a layout closer to this: MM MM CCCC This layout give exactly four full sets per sheet. Considering that I'm about to launch off on a build with 30+ 6" tiles, this small change would save me: Assuming, 30 identical 6" tiles: Current layout: 10 anchor pages to be printed. 30 extra sets of corners, no extra middles. Would need to print more pages to get more middle tabs for future sheets. vs Proposed layout: 8 anchor pages to be printed 2 full extra sets of tabs, which can be used on future tiles. As it stands, this build is what's going to push me to do something with GIMP to optimize the layout / printing. |

My guess is that the additional proportion of corner tabs are to account for the 3x3 and 6x3 tiles. The 3x3 tiles have 4 corners and no middles, the 3x6 have 4 corners and 2 middles, the 6x6 has 4 middle and 4 T. If you had an even number of each type of tile you would need twice as many corners as you would middle pieces. If you use only 6x6 tiles you end up at parity, where you need just as many middle pieces as corner pieces. I would expect that to be the exception rather than the rule, but I can understand why you would want to reduce waste. |

The 3x3 and 3x6 tiles have their own sets of tabs that are printed with them. |

Huh - you're right. I haven't printed any new anchor sheets in a long while. Changing the bottom row to be only middle connectors all the way across would also work (and would require less tweaking) - it would yield 16 of each connector. |

You're talking about: MCC MCC MM That could work as well. Might need less overall tweaking to. Either way, what I would like is full sets of anchor tabs without extras. |
