I am finally getting around to learning about these connectors in the Thoumont's TLX set. Trying to build the building in the promo pics on my schedule has taken much longer than I'd have imagined! After biting the bullet and sending a couple connector pages through my silhouette, I thought they made perfect sense, except for two things:
1. I am looking at the pieces my silhouette has cut for me, and I noticed the connectors have a bar with three glue points in a row, and it has made vertical cuts between them. I'm wondering - is this intentional? I kinda thought I was supposed to fold the long sides around and glue the tab to the middle glue point, then bend the sides in to form square or triangular holes for the tabs to fit in. If that's the case, why the extra cuts between the glue points? I don't think it matters much, unless it's a sign that I just don't get how to assemble these pieces.
After doing a couple of the connectors this evening, I'm convinced I don't want those cut marks in there... Easy enough for me to modify, but I wanted to mention it in case it should be fixed for everyone.
2. There are connector pages containing what appear to be faces to glue onto the connector beams - they just fold in half and have a long glue point on one side. These are just optional structural pieces to glue onto the connector beams, right?
OK. On closer inspection of the Thoumont's promo pics, and after actually building a couple connectors, I see that those pieces are meant to cover up the face of the connector to make it look cleaner.
I haven't gotten around to edging all of the connector pieces I just cut out, so I figured I'd ask before I go and do something stupid... If you saw how I managed to assemble my first bay window, you'd have a good chuckle...
The great thing about working in paper is when you make a mistake, you can print it out and try again!
