I recently downloaded the planner, but when I try to open the .exe file nothing happens. I receive no error or message, it just doesn't do anything. I updated Java, no difference. I completely removed Java and reinstalled and still nothing. I am running Windows Vista. Any help would be great. |

There has been a similar problem for someone who unzipped the planner in the program file directory. It is safer to use your user directory to unzip the planner. Is this your case ? |

Cool! I fight WIN7 all day with our Db application. If a client didn't install in certain steps WIN7 can really hose up Db. -D² |

I can't get mine to work either. The error I'm getting is "Could not find the main class:" and then it would give the file path to the jar I just tried running. I'm on windows 7, new computer, just installed java for the first time too. I tried putting the planner in the C: drive like previously suggested but that did not work for me. Thanks for your time. |

First : try to put the planner in a subfolder of your document folder If that doesn't work, open a console, go to the directory the planner is installed to and type java -jar TerrainlinX_Planner.jar Does one of this works ? What version of java do you have ? |

Thanks for the response. I put the file into Documents and didn't have any luck. I then tried to command promt the file now that it was in Documents and typing what you wrote verbatim I got , " 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." When I go to the java website it says, "congratulations! You have the recommended (Version 6 Update 30" |

I uninstalled and re-installed java and I'm still getting the "Could not find the main class:" error. |

Hi, what you may want to try : 1. Go to "My Computer" and do a search for "java.exe". Do also a search for "javaw.exe" Do you find it ? In which directory ? This last point is important because on Win 7, there is (at least on my computer, so i'll assume it is the same on yours) two "program files" directories, one for "older" 32 bits applications, and one for "newer" 64 bits applications. It may be a problem of 32bits vs 64 bits version of java I know I have two versions of java installed and if I try to open the jar file with the incorrect version of java, I do have a "can't find main class" problem. 2. Open a console and type echo %PATH% What's the result ? Sorry for the inconvenience, but hopefully, we will solve this... |

I wasn't even aware there was a 64 bit java. I downloaded it, told the program to run with the 64 bit javaw. Same error. There's apparently a few threads with people having the same issue, this appears to be a very wide spread problem. |

In fact you should *not* be using the 64bit java, but the one in "program file(x86)" Try forcing the launching with "Open with" and select either java.exe or javaw.exe found in "Program files (x86)\Java\bin" The only time I had a problem similar to yours, was when using the java found in "Program files" instead of "Program files (x86)" |

I had been using the programs (86) the entire time until someone recommended the 64 bit as a possible fix for the issue. Both versions have the same error. |

Did you try this? http://java.com/en/download/help/error_mainclass.xml EDIT never mind seems I can't read, I was anticipating when they say to uninstall java that it would give more complicated instructions than just use the remove programs... |

[1.31 KiB] Downloaded 942 times This is a very simple program that just opens a new window. unzip it into your document directory (or wherever you want) and launch the jar file, (try using c:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe) If that doesn't work, try renaming the jar file into a zip and unzip it. You should have the following files: com\xan\test\JavaFrameTest.class com\xan\test\JavaFrameTest$1.class META-INF\MANIFEST.MF Open a console and type : java -classpath . com.xan.test.JavaFrameTest If it doesn't work, try using javaw instead of java javaw -classpath . com.xan.test.JavaFrameTest If nothing works, well, it's a problem of java installation, but I don't know which one, as you already tried to reinstall java. you may have to desinstall java once again, then clean up the registry, then reinstall java again, but I can't guarantee it will work |

Thanks a bunch, I'll give this a shot when I get home. Just for the sake of time, how would I clean up the registry? Is it just a matter of making sure jaropen or whatever it was called is no longer associated with java after I uninstall the program? Thanks. |

Yeah, uninstalled, rebooted, checked the registry to make sure there was no mention of jarfile. Reinstalled java. Still the same issue. |

Windows Start button -> Config panel 2. System and Security 3. System 4. Advanced System parameters (on the left panel) 5. Button "Environment variables" 6. On the bottom list, find the "Path" System variable and select "Modify" 7. add ";C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin" to this variable and select OK. 8. Check! open a console and type "java". Does it find the program ? |
