Post subject: | Please, I need some help instalation |
Hello everybody, My name is Carlos Schulz, Im from Brazil, and Im new in this. I recently bought the software, but I can not make it work. I'm not a computer expert, so maybe you can help me. First I created a folder in the root C: and put the ZIP file, and extracted the zip contents (3 contents: terrainX, resources folder and saves folder). After that, I double-clicked the file TerrainlinX and there appeared a window asking which program I want to use to run the file. I selected the open whith java program (java web starter launcher). However, at the time that Java 7 starts, an application error message appears. I select, Details, and a message appears: The following required field is not in the file drive: jnlp (translate from portuguese, ok?) MissingFieldException[ The following required field is not in the file drive: <jnlp>] at com.sun.javaws.jnl.XMLFormat.parse(Unknown Source) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source) at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source) at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source) at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Unknown Source) at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) I know nothing about it. Did I something wrong? Can anyone help me? Thank you and sorry about the poor English. |

First, welcome to the forum. Your error was to use java web starter, instead of java. For the planner to correctly work, you need to have java installed on your computer, not the web version... What OS are you using ? Windows, or Mac ? On Windows, you should use javaw.exe (not sure of the Mac name, but should be equivalent) So, Check that java is correctly installed on your computer by launching a console (start menu, execute, cmd) Then in that console type "javaw -v" Hope this helps |

The program you should use is indeed 'javaw'. If on a command line, you have an error, it may means java is not correctly installed on your computer. Try typing "java -version" instead, to see if this works. I suggest you try to download and reinstall java (found ) On a side note : where is your java directory ? In "Program file", or in "Program file (x86)" ? |

First you may try launching the jar file with javaw from both directories. I should think it'd work better with the one from (x86), but who knows. If none of them works, then you can try reinstalling Java... |

Did you install the 32bits, or 64bits version ? Make sure you try both. If none works, we'll try launching from a console. By the way, is it always the same error you get, or has it changed with the reinstallation of java ? |

So, we'll try using the console... So enter a console Start menu type cmd in the search box Go to the directory where the planner is installed cd c:\some\directory\wwg\planner Try launching the planner using javaw : javaw -jar TerrainlinX_Planner.jar wait for the planner to launch (a few seconds), or an error message to appear. If that doesn't work, please tell me the error message (if any), and try launching the planner using java java -jar TerrainlinX_Planner.jar wait for the planner to launch (a few seconds), or an error message to appear... Tell me how it works... |

If you are in the correct directory (type dir, to list the content of current directory, to be sure), and if jar file name is correct (terrainlinks_planner.jar seems weird : did you renamed it ?) you should not have this error. Check that two parameters first. Note : the tab key help autocomplete a word being written, so if you type javaw -jar Ter + tab, it will complete to correct jar name, normally... |
