When laying out a map, I think it seems reasonable to treat balconies and connectors as floor pieces, at least in terms of being able to show/hide features of the map. My current mental model is that the "tiles" encompasses the pieces that act as the "floor" of that level, and the "symbols" are the collection of things sitting on the "floor" (like posts, walls, stairs, markers etc). When I toggle off "symbols" I lose all the balconies and connectors. I could be argued out of including connectors in what collectively call the "floor"... I'd like to hear what other users think. |

You could turn off all symbols, but you can also turn off only some symbols, so this is not an issue. It could simpler to use if balconies where treated as floors, but that is not that simple to change in the code, because 'balconies' is just a name of a symbol, not a specific element... |

You interpret it right... I'll have a look at the code but I tried to be as generic as possible... for symbols. So whatever you do, the separation between tiles and symbols will still be here. It may simpler to modify the way you could turn on and off each symbol separately, so you can turn on and off a predefine set of symbol types as a whole... |
