Few days ago, the program dont run (win7 and java enviroment installed)
and now I dont knot what to do
anyone can help me ? (I unistall and reinstall the java platform)
and dont work

in teh fisrts days the planner works but now not
any idea or soultion ¿?

What do you see when you try to run the program? Do you get an error message, and if so, can you post the full text of the error or errors you're getting? Even a screenshot of the error would be helpful.

I don't own the application, so it might be unlikely I can help fix the problem, though the error message might give more clues to people.

Did you install something else between the time of it working and the time of it not working?

are two errors :
one opens the msdos window and close it so fast, I cant read it
and the other say error of jar module

This is definitely an odd problem. Have you tried updating java/reinstalling the program?

I unistall java, pass the antivirus (macfee)
clean the regystry
defragmented the disc
and continues not working

Try uninstalling java and reinstalling the latest java.

Is it just the planner that's not working? Do other Java programs work?

I had something of a similar problem and no amount of uninstalling / reinstalling helped, in the end I had to completely reinstall Windows. May be a bit drastic but that was the only way I could get Java to work.

the two programs I use based on java works, just the tlx not.
and I cannot change the win file asociation.

well I find another solution, changing the name of tileset to .rar
and work wiht the images (its a temporal solution)

I wonder where the tech guru is who designed the TLX planner to help with these problems. I don't know enough about computers to help, but I will say that the TLX planner is a fantastic program. If you can't get it to work period, then I suggest you contact Denny and explain your problem. I'm sure he'll offer you a refund if you really can't get it working.

Going to build a virtual machine to try and replicate your problem. I need to know exactly which version of Java you're running. According to my Win7 box (which has no problems with the planner) I've got version 6 update 24. I probably also have versions 6-u12 through 23 as well since Java's been truly dreadful at cleaning up after itself.
My linux box is running 6-u22 so it's lagging a couple of versions behind the current release, probably because Debian haven't decided that 23 or 24 are stable enough to be included in the repositories.

So. If I could get your version of windows (Pretty sure you said 7 earlier but I just want to make sure), whether or not you're up-to-date with the Windows updates, if you've tried Windows 7 SP1 pre-release. And which version of the Java Runtime Environment you're running.

What I'm hoping for is to replicate your problem and then roll back a version or 2 of the JRE.

In the meantime, those lovely people over at PortableApps.com have portable versions of the JREs to allow you to run java apps from your pen drive when you don't have install rights on your PC. The quick search here http://portableapps.com/search/node/java gives versions ranging from 6-u14 through 6-u23. You'd probably have to launch the program at the command line with something like:

That should force it to use the portable java and not the one installed on your computer. Bonus to this is that your planner and everything it needs to run is right there on the stick and you can carry it from computer to computer.

Sorry, when I'm not building TLX stuff I'm one half of the IT team at a college. We've got to be generalists but I'm primarily web and programming. Figure it's time I gave something back to this thread.

Let's see where we get with the portable apps and the test build, get you up and running with tis tool.

I can look into that error you're getting.

Give the portableapps one a go, see if you can use that to get the programme running.

Incidentally, this is why I don't like java. What seem like minor changes to the Powers That Be at Oracle can really break things for everyday users.

for me its useful (but I mapping for CS and I can made it wihtout the tlx)
only the printing of the pages are very helpful.
I think its better to work with the tlx out of java (something like adobe flash

Sorry all, I just got back from a trip to Australia the other day and it was right back to my job.

Other than the previous suggestion of uninstalling/reinstalling Java and redownloading the Terrainlinx Planner to make sure you have an uncorrupted version there is not a whole lot I can suggest.

You can use this page to verify that your install of Java is working correctly:

Right. Tried this with the Portable Java environment from portableapps.com

My setup:
Pen drive containing the following:

d:\software\portableapps\portablejava\
d:\terrainlinx\tlxplanner\

To get the planner to run:
1. Open a DOS prompt (Start/Run/cmd)
2. cd (change directory) to the directory containing terrainlinx_planner.jar
3. Run the following (assuming your pen drive is D)


Give it a couple of seconds and it'll be up and running. This was tested with PortableJava v6 update 22 and update 23.

You don't need admin rights to install any of this stuff.

The portable apps solution is a good one, even if you get the program to work without it. The convenience of running it from a thumb drive without admin rights is nice.

I use PortableApps for a lot of stuff, particularly stuff I know won't be installed on someone's PC. If I'm cleaning up an infected PC, I know I can just reformat the pen drive and put a clean install of the tools on there and I don't have to risk my network.

512 meg should be big enough, though PortableApps recommends a 2-gig stick. If you've only got 512 then it's time for an upgrade. You should be able to pick up a 4 or 8 gig stick for a reasonable price. 2 gig isn't worth the price these days.
