I hate to keep banging on about a working solution, but you can install the PortableApps Java into your user folder under 200, XP, Vista and 7 and then use that to launch the TLX Planner. Yes, you've got to run it from the command line, you probably won't have the rights to change what program runs java apps for you. Key thing is to be in the directory containing the TLX Planner and then put the full path to the portable java.

It works, I promise!

As for a flash version, I've tried my hand at both Flex and Flash programming in the past. Much as I hate working with java, I find Flash worse. Plus with a java-based app there's scope to run it on both iPad and Android tablets (there's a hint for the next version, please? One for Android Honeycomb?)

I got to agree with Imajica on this one a Flash version would be awful.

"I cannot change the file asotiations (error on hkey...jarfile)" This sounds like you may have bigger issue in the system. Can you open a command prompt and manually run the java -jar TLXplanner.jar command? If so what shows in the window

Does the planner need a CLASSPATH specified at all? Are there associated jar files that it requires, that maybe it isn't finding?

If you WWG guys ever consider Flex, let me know. I've been doing large-scale Flex ui development for a couple years now, and can share (a) how great it has been for the end user, and (b) how absolutely terrible it has been for the developers!

But to the error message. I take it that's what you get from double-clicking?

Looks like the error for the Java directory not being in environment variables in Windows.

In Windows 7 left click the start button, right click Computer and select properties. Select Advanced System Settings on the left side. A popup will open, select Environment Variables. In the bottom of the new window under System Variables select Path and click Edit. At the end of the "Variable value" add a ";" and then the path to where Java is installed on your computer. So, if Java is installed in the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6" you would add

";C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6" to the end of the Variable value.

Then hit OK on all of the windows to apply it. You may need to restart your computer for it to take effect.

Don't want to stray too off-topic here, but wanted to clarify - these days ActionScript is a much richer language. It's not the language that's the problem anymore - is the dev tools and buggy framework. Anyone interested in why can PM me.

Okay, so if Java isn't properly installed you've got cause to involve whoever looks after your IT.

What you can do is this:
Find out where Java.exe is installed. It'll be something like c:\program files\java\jre\bin (that's where it is on this Vista laptop I'm cleaning up.)

In the command prompt, navigate to the TerrainLinx_Planner directory as before but this time try typing all of this:

Replace "c:\program files\java\jre\bin\" with whatever the path to the directory you found java.exe installed in.

This will get around having to set the path and it will either work or give a nice long java error message.

I finally did formated my pc, in a few minutes I try to use terrainlinx
