Hi!

Forgive me if this question has been asked before. I searched and didn't find a clear answer.

I was wondering if someone could tell me how many clip sets are generally needed per kit purchased? The clips are marketed as being sold separately so that you aren't paying the purchase price of the clips each time you purchase a new kit. But it seems that many of the "levels" that people have built state that more than one box of clips per kit is being used.

Also, do you have a recommendation of what kits, and how many of each, should initially be purchased to make a decent board for a standard Malifaux game?

This is a very difficult question to answer as everyone is different and every build is different. I personally went the 1 box of clips per box of terrain and that has served me well. I also like the idea of purchasing clips in groups of three in order to store one clip type in each box.

As for layout, I would think that one box of terrain would work, but feel limited. I personally chose to start with one box of each and that felt fine for my D&D games.

I have found, for my building potential that one more box of clips than map sets has been a good formula. As Talae said, it varies depending on what and how you build. It also depends on just how much clipping you want to do. I tend to not shortclip, so I use more than someone else might, for that reason.

I have 3 boxes of clips and 2 boxes of terrain.
I run out of clips more often than terrain... but you don't always need to apply a clip in every point it can go in.

So...
1 box of clips per 1 box of terrain if you do not go OC about these things.
2 boxes of clips per 1 box of terrain if you do (like me).

Speaking of that. I wonder if we'll get separate sets of only specific clip types since the amount of clips in a box does not take into account that usually you need more Ls than Is or Ts.

I started with 1 of each of the sets and 3 boxes of clips -- that has worked well for me (I rarely use all three sets of TC at once).

My next core set purchase will be more buildings.

When I get the upcoming dungeon sets, I plan to get another 3 sets of clips and then stop. I suspect that at that point I will run out of table space before running out of clips.

Thanks for the responses everyone. They have been quite helpful!

At a certain point, the fact that you don't have to purchase clips in each new kit, does become valuable, as some of you have pointed out. In your initial investment into TerraClips, you will likely purchase more than one box of clips per kit. But once you have a couple of boxes, no matter how many terrain kits you buy (unless you go completely bonkers w/ a HUGE board) you shouldn't have to buy any more clip sets! Good planning WWG!

I hope this thread will help others with their initial foray into TerraClips! ;)

I initially bought a Streets and Buildings plus 2 boxes of clips. I just recently bought 4 more boxes of clips in antici.....................pation of the Dungeon sets being released.

240 "I" clips will fit comfortably into one clip box. 240 "L" clips will fit comfortably into one clip box. 160 "T" clips will comfortably fit into one clip box. :-?

Funny thing is I don't play games. :-\
Those things are just nice to have and it supports WWG. And, the riverboat casinos are financing the operation. B-)

Well, I ultimately ordered one Streets kit and one Buildings kit and three boxes of clips.
I think that will serve me well as my initial investment. Once I develop a building style, I will have a good idea of how many clips I will need each time I purchase a new kit. Happy Terrain building everyone!! ;)

I agree we are all different in the amounts we use But, I have found that for the stability that I want, I will use about 3 boxes of clips for every 2 boxes of terrain. I actually wind up with a lot of T clips and roofs left over but the L clips seem to go too quickly.
