Yes, but it's also good to remember that none of us know what's going to happen. The clip thing is just the most obvious thing to worry about.

We (outside of Denny) cannot do anything about the packaging. But there is something we can do:

Send a note to your favorite vendor, with a variant of "I just ordered..." or "I'm thinking about ordering..." and saying "...I heard that clips are needed for the terrain, but your website doesn't mention it. Are you including them free as an introductory promotion?"

Also spread the news wherever you can. That can help a lot in a market as small as ours.

I'm on the side of not having the clips with the sets (unless of course the price is the same with them included), why? Well unless you set up all the sets while you're playing you're going to have unused clips sat in the box. It make much more sense to buy a pack or two of clips which can then be used with whichever set you happen to be playing at the time.

Except all of the current releases are designed to work together to make a big mega-city. This might work for say Sci-fi and fantasy setups, but all of the current releases are designed to work together, so I think including the clips would be fine.

This stuff looks awesome, it's amazing to think of the endless amount of modularity and mobility this product will provide.

I think separating the clips from the boards was a great plan. I'd be overloaded with clips if every pack came with a set. After your first 2-3 clip boxes, I think most regular users would be set. I don't have any need for playing at insanely huge scales, so I'm thinking 2-3 boxes will suit me fine, including any future sets. This will give flexibility to others who do want to build huge sets, to buy more as they need them. Win/Win either way!

I do have a question about the clips in a different regard, I see "I", "L", and "T" shapes, but why no "X" shape clip? In the screenshots provided I saw only one 4 way segment (First screen shot for the sewers preview). The 4 way segment looks like it was achieved using an L clip on one side, and letting it free float on the other side. Is there any major reason for no X shape for 4 way design? Or is there a way to achieve this with the 3 clip shapes provided?

The sets are designed to be played together. However that's an option, and is not going to fit every users needs. I myself have no plans to make a mega city, so I'm happy that I'm given a choice to how much I'm going to be spending, rather than being overloaded with extras that I won't ever need.

A quick question (well 2 actually)
How thick are the tiles?
How easy will it be to kit bash the old tiles to fit the clips?

We'll be bringing you video tutorials which cover this type of usage. Long story short is that walls can either connect to floor tiles OR to eachother. What that essentially means is that you always have connection options which don't strictly require an "X" type connector. It will make more sense when you see it in action.



The punchboard is approximately 1.7mm thick

My suggestion on the whole "clips not included" debate is to make sure to emphasize at conventions like GenCon that the separate box of clips is required. Nowadays, a lot of gamers get their gaming news and tips on how to improve their gaming experience from blogs/websites--and those sites often give a summary of neat things they found at GenCon. If they mention the need for a separate clips purchase, then gamers are more likely to notice it.

Grinning ... I had not thought of doing that, but now that you brought it to mind, hhmm, what a nice project that would be.

Actually, when the Terraclips wave hits, if successful, WWG will design other sets to meet a variety of gamer needs as they have done with the TLX line. They should be paced as two or three releases a year ... no more than that. Time will tell. Hopefully, I'll see them do a comprehensive Sci-Fi set.

By the way, what is the wall height for Terraclips?

Although I am more in the include the clips with the terrain camp I have thought of some other uses for the clips that would make separate boxes of clips quite convenient. Looks like I will be searching for more aluminum cans to get the funds to buy the system.

A suggestion for those that want to buy some sets and clips but might be worried about the cost is to set aside a few bucks each week. Make it an amount that won't be missed too much. Do without a pack of smokes (you should quit anyway) or one less overpriced soda or one less extremely overpriced coffee each day. After a while you will have enough in the jar to buy what you want. Better yet if you have a bank account structured the right way stick the money in there and collect some interest too.

They are still found in isolated pockets, mostly in "flyover" territory.

Might be worth contacting the guys over at Beasts Of War. They did an "unboxing" of the Sewers set during last Thursday's Turn8 video, and they clearly said (and showed) that the box came with clips.

Wasn't an official unboxing (more like a fun tease) and they did mention that they believed the clips were sold separately. They're doing an official unboxing here in the not too distant future. I'll give them a jingle just so they are 100% clear on the clip thing though.

At first I thought it seemed expensive as well, but it's actually quite reasonable. If you calculate the costs for materials for TLX, it's not that much less, and then there is also the time investment of building it.

Lets not forget price per area covered.

Games Workshop "modular game table" is 290 for 24 sqft. This stuff is around 50 per 6. (Or 200 for an entire 6x4 table.) Thats almost a third off,. This however doesn't even account for the fact that the sets also come with walls, stairs, and other bits of stuff to make that 6x4 size actually interesting, which is something the GW table doesn't provide.

Another one to consider, the GW tower Witchfate Tor is 60 bucks. It covers a tiny bit of space as well. Its "modular" in that you can change the two middle stories around, or make a slightly smaller tower. Nowhere near the modularity that comes with a single set of TC.

GW are established BIG shop they can sell at the price they want
(the rivals dont have the same quality)
they sell : paints, sets , figures, vehicles, etc etc
you cant compare with plastic buildings with modularity and customiced desings

We did actually go through a process of researching other materials very early on (plastic card included) but to meet the required pricepoint vs content load, punchboard was the most economical choice. The clips themselves are an absolute necessity in terms of balancing a completely modular 3D terrain system. There's only so many ways to skin a cat in that regard

the cardboard, foamcore, or punchboard are a bad election (think on durability)
the price on Asia of the materials are so low in big stocks
you can think on launch the wwg work on this line
(this will be sooo a great notice for all the users of the forum and the lovers of
cutouts)
