| Post subject: | Multiple Building Build - single box of Buildings and Clips |
*WARNING* This post contains many images and may be browser intensive. First, I wanted to thank everyone who liked my first layout. One of the posters, greyhaze, had mentioned wanting to know what could be done with a single box. This got me thinking. I decided to see if I could make a varied, distinctive, multi-building set that was still interesting. This is the result. Just like last time, I had to be creative with my clip usage and use T-clips where I would have preferred L-clips, but this is a one-box build, so you work with what you've got. Full Set These are two wide shots of the buildings I put together. One is a medium sized tavern/home. The second is a small stable. The third is a medium-larger sized home/guild. Once again, I have added a few minis in the middle for scale. You'll also see the single box that all of this terrain came in and still fits in. It truly is impressive. Medium Tavern/Home These shots are of the medium-sized tavern/home. For this building I went with all stone. The balcony is only accessible through the staircase in the back. There are two front entrances and one rear entrance under the balcony overhang. The first two shots are exterior shots. It's interesting. Every time I choose a new shape for a building, when I get to the roof, I have a moment where I can't picture how to shape it up, but then every time, I find the perfect pieces to do it. It really speaks to the versatility of the set. The next two shots show the interior of the building. It has one larger room with two entrances in the front. There is a smaller alcove to one end and each entrance in the front is a small choke point, which can be fun for your tanks to bash their ways into. I also left a rear entrance for two reasons. The first is to allow for another avenue for enemies to flow through and the second is to give better access to the staircase for the balcony. Stable This one is a small, simple stable. There isn't anything complicated to it. I went with the green wooden floors in this one because it is going to be a lot dirtier. There was also no need for luxury or multiple rooms. I had put in some balconies on the inside (for hay or other horse stuff), but I had to remove them due to needing the clips for the third building. The stone archways form a square stable area. Medium-Large Home/Guild Building This last building is using only pieces that have the plastered walls with beams. It has two stories and has a roof that has a section that transitions down from the top to the bottom floor. You can see that I had to get creative on the balcony. By the time I got to this building, I was running out of clips, so I placed the railing recessed from the edge in order to conserve them. Here are the exterior shots. This shot is of the second floor. I was going to extend the top out a little more onto the balcony, but due to the fact that this was the third building, I didn't have the wall pieces to do it (similar to balcony, I had to improvise). I like the layout because someone could ambush you from the balcony and I also used one of the floor tiles with the compartment in the floor for a place to hide loot. These final shots are of the bottom floor. As with most builds, it started with this floor. I wanted a U-shaped building on the bottom floor. It is very easy to place doors in the end of the small rooms, but instead I chose to place the main entrance in the center. What is nice about this is that, instead of creating a choke point like I did in the first building, this one has an open entrance and you are forced to go and explore to the small wings. There is a second entrance on the rear of the side. Both entrances are underneath the balcony overhang when it is fully assembled. You'll also see another compartment on the floor in the room with the staircase. Conclusion So, after trying to stretch the contents in the box to create a full setting, I am very pleased. It is a testament to the absolute variety that the set allows that I was able to do it without sacrificing much. All in all, if you were to throw these three buildings out on to a game mat, I think you could have a good little adventure. I still don't have game night pics, but those should be coming within the next week or so. Also, please keep posting your layouts, guys. I really like what everybody is doing. |

No problem guys. It was fun, but I was always a Lego kid anyways, so I always have fun building stuff. It's really easy for me to show what you can do with one box because I can't afford another one for a little bit. I think the next time I post up pics will be game night. |
