Unfortunately I don't have as much time as I'd like these days to focus on building (future goodies taking all the focus!). My wife Tracey was kind enough to let me out of the dungeon for a few hours this past weekend to build a small layout for you! You guys can't have all the fun now can you?!
The thing I wanted to showcase here was the use of elevation in your TerraClips layouts. TerraClips does its most impressive work when you are truly thinking in 3D, so I always come at layout design from that perspective. In the below I thought it would be cool to use a weaving street ramp progression to higher levels. This gave me the opportunity to build a towering building complex off to the back side with some fun balcony treatments. Breaking up the landscape with elevation and creative shapes really makes layouts stand out.
Another thing I wanted to stress with this build is the use of all the extra bits included with TerraClips. Using ladders, stairs, balcony ledges, tokens and doors all add to your overall presentation and shouldn't be underestimated.
You'll also notice that I've gotten in the habit of skipping clips altogether on street tiles that sit flat on the table. My general rule of thumb is; clip usage is supportive only, if you don't need the support for a floating structure, don't use the clips. You'll also notice that I use the bountiful tokens provided to camouflage tile connections in little areas here and there. Don't shy away from this technique as it really makes builds shine! When you couple that with conservative clip usage, you really start to get great results.
