My good friend it seems that you have had a "wonderful" weekend, I think you are right about this being a social life - for all of us!

Hey I love it, I hear your voices in each post you guy write, each poster with his/her (I think we had one lass but she might have gotten misplaced... ) own voice telling me about their day/week, game/games etc.

Very cool stuff. The sad fact is that others miss out on the fun, kinda like my wife or work folk. There are times at work where I have reached the Zen and the Art of Espresso and my mind thinks back on the post from the night before - God do I smile! The cafe world is getting slamed and I smile away in my Sweet Spot.

Ok now that what the site had to say about the system, but Savage World does it also and the Savage Folk pescribe the Two Book Method: One Core Rule book and One Setting Book, nothing more or less.

Now there was an GURPS adaptation of In Nomine but .... . As for Superiors 4 this is a Sourcebook outlining the Demon Princes.

The Black and White hardcovers were to symbolize Heaven and Hell. Nothing more. But the offer still stands about the book if you would like.

I'm glad you will be getting the BR book soon, very well done it is. And the rules are not built into the Structure of the fluff so you can butcher at will.

I started out in GURPS, and it is still by far one of my most favorite game systems. Elegant, flexible rule system. Far preferred over D&D or any other form of d20 I've tried so far.

Some people don't like the GURPS combat system because it's too fine-grained. IIRC, it uses one-second rounds. You get an attack and a defense roll, with various modifiers depending on *how* you attack or defend. And spells often takes multiple rounds to get off. Personally, I kind like it that way. I still get frustrated in D&D about not getting a chance to actively defend myself.

Overall, GURPS does tend to lend itself to a a more grim-and-gritty, less munchkin-overdosed-on-magic play style. Some people don't like that - especially munchkins who like to overdose on magic.

Anyway, that's all just my own personal biases showing. One thing most people do agree on - even those who don't like GURPS as a gaming system - is that their various setting supplements are superb. As bayushi already mentioned, the various GURPS supplements are excellently researched, and provide oodles of useful information that can be adapted to just about any other game system.

My problems with GURPS are manifest.

A big chunk is the first edition stuff for the game was, well, no fun. (The Arabian setting book going so far as to tell the GM never to have sword fights on flying carpets because they would never happen...)

And the local GURPS players seem to be in competition with the Rifts players for who can be the most obnoxious group of fans. So far GURPS is winning at a walk, one of them going so far as to pull a D&D Basic set out of a child's hands and told him to buy GURPS instead. The kid bought neither. I wanted to hit the idiot.

actually its really cool to be talking of the rpg stuff to each other rather than just me. I was getting a bit egocentric but that was like overhearing
a conversation for just a minute.

Actually, the more I get into it, the more I feel inclined to try and seek out a group in my locale. Easier to learn on the trot. I'd have to get a Swamp Duck sitter for a night a week or something but its a thought.
