I just received the game and have begun the installation process (this game is huge). I plan to hopefully play at least some tomorrow. Are there others of you that are playing?

I currently know someone on Darkhaven and someone on Anvil's Rock. I am unsure where I will end up.

Look me up at SeattleMan.3718 and let me know you are from the WWG boards.

As a casual RPG gamer with irregular gaming times, MMOs have not really worked for me up till now. Why pay a monthly fee when my play is so irregular; it's really hard to keep up with a guild for the same reason.

GuildWars2 has solved all these problems and is a lot of fun. I especially like the spontaneous co-op play. I picked it up last week and am have a ball with an Asuran Engineer (small size + enthusiasm + explosives = fun!).

I'm Zenguy.6421 on the Tarnished Coast server - if you end up on that server would love to game with you.

Yeah, those Asuran Engineers are fun, aren't they? I especially love the flamethrower. Even if it's not as effective as the base weapons, it's a ton of fun. Plus, those turrets help a LOT! I have soo much more survivability with my Engineer than any other class.

I have been playing a Sylvari Ranger on Anvil's Rock (level 8 and mildly lost in the world lol). I now know people on four or so servers, so I am at a loss with which one to stick with.

I'm on Kaineng server. My player name is Ninevah.5316. I'm happy to move to a server that other folks from WWG are playing on, to be honest.

The nice thing is that you can only have characters on 1 server in the game. If you want to go over to a different server, ALL of your characters get transferred there for free within about 30 seconds. So, unlike other MMOs, there's no need to worry about having to make new characters if you move to a different server to play with friends.

I'm liking the game in general, but after 30 or so levels, the game gets pretty monotonous. I got my Elementalist to lvl 30 the other day, just so I could get to Elite skills and try them out, but they really didn't seem better than the other ones I had already and they just have a much higher recharge rate than anything else.

Most of the voice acting is good. The little bits that add flavor are pretty cool. They put a lot of effort into some of the NPCs in the major cities. Unfortunately, the writing for the solo quest lines is really bad. I ESC click through most of the cut scenes for that 'cuz they're so badly done.

I forget what server I'm on. Its a US server, but I live in Europe, so at my peak times the server is less crowded.

I'm having a blast on my warrior and I'm having a really bad case of alt-itus. I think my warrior just hit 20 or 21. I love the dynamic events and that for open world stuff you dont need to group. Just run up to someone and start smashing way.

Last night we were fighting a giant pig, and it was fun to watch how it got tougher the more people joined the fight.

I am a casual MMO player. Paying a monthly fee doesn't work for me. I've been booting up my original GW on and off to kill things.

Knowing there are some people who would be playing, I would be interested in checking out GW 2. Just don't have endless hours to devote to it.

I agree. I like that it's not quite the same old-same old formula that MMOs have used for the last several years where you look for an NPC with an icon over his head, talk to him to get generic quest A, kill 10 rats or bears or whatever, go back to NPC and talk to him to finish quest. Rinse, repeat 1000 times. In this, there are a handful of quests per zone, but you can do 5 different things to further that quest to completion. And the dynamic events are cool. Half of the time you'll complete those quests just by doing the dynamic events in the area.

I'm a self-professed alt-aholic. I've made and remade characters several times now. My highest level one is 31, but I've got 2 others at 21, and a few others at 5-15. I finally broke down and had to spend some cash to get an extra character slot 'cuz I wanted to make more of them.

This is one of the many reasons GuildWars2 appeals to me: I like that I can play a lot for a while and then if I take a break and can come back later for a casual run my old friends in the game will still be able to play with me, even if they are 100+ levels ahead of my character.

If you guys like the world events, just wait until you hit the 75-80 areas. They drop all of the tasks from the areas for event after event after event... Really a good way to build up that Karma for the cultural pieces (that I'm only halfway to affording one of...)

I am apparently enjoying myself. I am at level 26 and still having just as much fun as when I started. I really wish they would figure out "guesting" or whatever it is called so I could stop worrying about what servers people are on. I know 1-3 people each on a half dozen or so servers...plus my old CoX "guild" has a presence on yet a different server.

I was running my asura engineer around and a thought hit me. "Couldn't I pop over to the human starting zone and grab those three easy skill points?" SO now I've been running my main and all my alts on a bit of a skill point field trip. between the human, norn, and char areas I can pick up 9, the silvari, I can only figure out how to get to 2 (I hate that zone, pretty to look at, crazy to get around.) and I forget how many I can pick up in the Asura stating area.

And as a bonus, you get XP for visiting areas and for doing what ever dynamic events happen to pop up while you are there.

The last one I'm working on is my hunter. That dude is a beast!

Asura Engineers rule the world! ... or we will just as soon as we can get all the bugs ironed out of this equipment.
There's a poll somewhere about most enjoyable race for a first time in GuildWars2: the Asura led by a long way. Lots of fun and they get the best dialogue. Given them devices and explosives to play with is just asking for trouble.

Yeah, I've been enjoying my Asuran engineer. Have just been working him through the Charr territory - every time he goes through the Charr capital, the Black Citadel, I make a point of deliberately jumping him over any Charr that happen to be along his route. After all, it's good for those lumbering beasts to see the grace and style of their true masters. Yes sir, this engineer comes full equipped with 100% Asuran attitude. :))

Find a group and run along with them as there is usually someone in the group who knows how to get to each point in the area.

I just picked up the easiest three skill points yet, and they were ones that are normally a bit of a challenge. The first one I was wondering where that group were going, so I ran after them and I caught up with them just as they finished the last mob - I literally ran into the room just as the skill point award triggered! I just joined in as they charged along from there and picked up two more points in fairly quick succession. Doing those skill points with a large group made them sooooo much easier.

As for finding how to get to the skill challenges and vistas, that's half the fun. A few of them are rewards for completing a jumping puzzle, so have a good look around for obscure ways to access them.

Something else to keep in mind as you guys are running around - it is very much worthwhile to 100% explore the areas you're in - especially the high-level areas. While some of them can be challenging to finish out (especially if you don't like jumping puzzles), you get 40 pieces of that level of crafting material, transmutation stones (so that you can give your favorite looking gear the best stats), and two pieces of rare gear (maybe not usable by your current character, but always at the high end of what you can get at that zone's level).
Also, the Daily achievements are worth doing, as you get a decent bit of coin, and a couple of items useful for one of the later quests.

I was playing my main story line last night with a friend that has a Human Thief and he said that Sylvari quests seems much more epic than his. It could be the choices we made along the way, but I find them way interesting.

A personal downside:
The main story progresses WAY to fast. It out levels you very quickly. I find myself getting bored of exploring zones at times and want to do my story line quests, but they are still 3-4 levels above me and too difficult to solo. I guess this could be fixed my alternating stories with another PC or two in a team.

Naw, that's fairly common. I end up doing 1 or 2 chapters of my solo quest and then it gets above my level and then I go back to farming materials/doing renown heart quests/etc.

Certain skill challenges are REALLY tough...or are bugged. The one in the NE corner in the Sylvari starting zone is kinda tough, for example. The one in the NE corner of the Asura starting area and the one in the Norn starting area around the steam pools and the one in the Charr starting area in the NW corner were all bugged for the longest time and wouldn't even appear. Sometimes it works to just linger nearby for a while until other PCs come traipsing over and distract the mob that's guarding the area. Then, you just sneak in and grab the skill point.

I'm ClausLars.1724 I'm on...Underworld server I think (it's Europe even though I'm in the states). I started in the 3 day headstart while my wife was out of town so got a good amount of time in then, but since I only squeeze in maybe 6-7 hours every two weeks when I transition to nights. The game is great for just hopping in and picking right up without any sense of being left behind. My main is a Sylvari Thief who is currently 27. I have other alts too 15 is the highest.

I was getting into EVE (still love the game) but I let my sub expire, I can't justify that expense when GW2 offers sooo much fun gameplay for the one upfront payment.

@LD2062 It's really too bad you couldn't get your graphics sorted, not sure if Anet has tech support to help with that or not. Did you try to get help on their forums? I'm hoping you can work something out, it's a shame to sink the money and not get it running.

Image
I think I was here two nights ago while I was on, is it the zone north of the Sylvari starting zone where you fight all the Centaur DEs?

I ran around and did a string of those DEs that I hadn't seen before, and one of the awesome things was that after you retake that town (if it's where i think it is) it stays all destroyed and in flames until players go around to the damaged buildings and click to repair it at which point that little section is fixed. I don't even think I got XP for it, but once I found that out I was hunting out every damaged building I could find.

The DEs are great fun, I ran into several of them solo, and just scraped by surviving while kiting the enemies. I held my own for awhile but things were starting to look grim after 5-10 minutes, but out of nowhere two more players show up and we manage to finish that DE, then just loosely stuck together to finish out the chain. It is AWESOME to really capture the classic RPG feel(cliche) of the random group of heroes banding together during a time of trouble.

Image
I absolutely LOVE the underwater areas, the looks are just incredible and the combat manages to be just as dynamic as on land.

Let me assure you (as a level 80) that the personal quests start packing in much more tightly once you hit 70 (there are easily a half dozen between 75 and 80). But, yeah, it can be annoying to finish a quest to move urgently... and have to spend an hour exploring and levelling before you can do it. Then again, once you hit ~60, levelling starts to go much more quickly (well, it never really slows down, but there starts to be more to do to push it on), and there's a lot more to explore in each area.

I haven't done a dungeon run yet, as only just got to level 30 (my Asuran Engineer just had to pick an Asuran Attack Golem as his elite skill - of course).

Someone suggested you need to be L30 to do dungeons. Given the way GuildWars2 scales higher level players down to the zone they could all be L30 and would work just fine.

I have a little bit of work to do tonight, but I can't get these last 9 levels off my mind. I hope I can restrain myself enough to go to bed at a decent hour.

As for the invite, I have a person or two to ask first, but I would be willing to share it with someone here if my IRL friends aren't interested.
