I was just about to post this. I cannot say I am surprised; after all, there have been Lucas attractions at Disney parks since the 80's. I know some are looking at this with dismay, but Disney has the money and the drive to continue the franchise, so I am looking forward to it. |

Disney usually does a decent job with its properties - I'm interested to see what they do with these. Think about the IP they hold now, if only between Marvel and Lucas. Yikes. |

Just been having a conversation about this at work (hey, we're IT, it's required!  )The general consensus is that it's more likely to be good than bad, especially looking at how well they've managed the Marvel franchise. And here's hoping the 1st riding at Disneyland is the "Hit Jar-Jar with the baseball bat"...

With this news I feel safe in saying we will get those last three movies I have been wishing for since the beginning. Yes, Lucas did mess with the series with those last three, but I feel Disney will bring back the wow factor. |

Well, I am thinking they would incorporate the Thrawn Trilogy and some of the surrounding novels; if they set it in the "New Jedi Order" era, then you have about 20 years. According to the , here is an except of the timeline: Rebellion Era Year 0 - Battle of Yavin 4 ABY - Return of the Jedi (VI), Truce at Bakura (novel - 5 days later) New Republic Era 8 ABY - The Courtship of Princess Leia, Tatooine Ghost 9 ABY - Thrawn Trilogy 11 ABY - Jedi Academy Trilogy New Jedi Order Era 24 ABY + |

Do you think Disney will feel constrained by the books and non Lucas stuff? Personally I would not feel constrained by anything that did not appear on film. All that stuff out there, pfttt. |

Frankly, I would rather them go with the book stuff than the prequels that Lucas churned out.... The Auld Grump - the last good Star Wars movie was Empire Strikes Back. |

I'm all for a reboot - especially if it bypasses or at least plays down many of the decidedly 'meh' parts from Eisodes I-III. |

Being beholden to novels etc while trying to continue a movie franchise seems a little suspect. I'm thinking of the numerous revisions before Episode IV got to the screens. I think a lot more time was spent tweaking that than was spent churning out the latest trilogy-with-a-long-title.But the story seems to have been pretty well mapped out by Lucas, so it could well be that the main beats of the story will still be in place. No reason to imagine Disney making a mess of this one. I'm sure they will be only too well aware of the pros and cons of Episodes I to III. The burden of canon would seem to be a bigger threat, particularly if it's not particularly cinematic. I'd like to think that Disney execs are already digging out their Kurosawa collections wondering what else they can mine for the project

Depends on the content - Splinter In The Mind's Eye? Let it go. The Marvel comics? Let them go. The Dark Empire series of comics by Dark Horse? ... ... Better think that one over. Some of it my Star Wars friends swear by. The Timothy Zahn series? Mine it some, bring it into line without embracing it all. The Star Wars Holiday Special? Take it as holy writ! Or... maybe not.
