I have never run a marathon before, but my wife and I are signed up to run one next weekend. I say run, but we plan to pull our two year old daughter in a wagon.

The coolest part of it is that it isn't a typical 5k. It is called the "Color Me Rad" and they cover the runners in colored powder periodically throughout the race. There are a number of people that we know that are going. It should be a blast (of color )

Slight technical thing....you can't call a 5K am marathon....a Marathon is, by definition, 26.2 miles.

I was in track in high school, but did the long jump and high jump. I am a short distance runner. I didn't train too hard due to this being intended as family fun, but I am all for going big with it next year.

I am a rugby player and am not a long-distance runner at all. The only "race" I ever did was the O'Hartford (in Hartford, CT), for St. Patrick's day, and only because there was free beer at the end. My wife and my friend's wife did the full 5K. My friend and I did the "kid race" which was 1/2 or less while pushing my younger son in his carriage and my older son walking it.

I wasn't actually hurt by the comment at all. I am not disallusioned about it at all. I honestly didn't realize the distinction. I thought a marathon was a generic term for a race of just about any length. That being said, I am not interested in increasing my distance to more than 10k at any point.
