There is a snow angel in my near future.

Maybe someday I will be too old to feel giddy with the first snowfall, but not yet. Not yet.

The Auld Grump, last year the first snowfall was before Hallowe'en - somebody used their Jack O'Lanterns as the heads on snowmen....

We are sitting in about 1/2 a foot here in NW CT. Someone more central in the state has an 11" measurement.

Speaking of last year, my youngest son's birthday is the 29th of October. Last year he got snow. This year, a hurricane. We have taken to calling him the storm warden.

We don't often get a first snowfall here in Phoenix...and sand angels aren't as fun to make.

LOL! Yeah, getting sand in your shorts just isn't fun!

I'm right there with you Talae, we don't get snow in St. Pete either!

More on topic, we had the first rainfall in quite some time yesterday. We almost had a rainy day schedule. (We have those if there is a lot of mud...which is bound to happen with a dirt field with no drainage).

Talae, what about putting some watered-down white glue with the sand for those sand-angels? Did that waaay back in gradeschool for art projects. Of course, depending on the size of your sculpt you might need a 5-gal bucket worth of white glue. Upside is that is is weather-degradable as future rain will dissolve it. (Not so sure of the environment-friendliness of that much glue of it in one spot, though...) ... Oh, heck, just make it a 1-1 paper sculpt! [And submit it for kitbashing - lol!]

The environmental impact of white glue is... not much - white glue is made from spoiled milk.

The Auld Grump, I made some when I was eight years old - take 2% milk, add vinegar, scoop up the curds, mix with water and a pinch of baking soda to remove the vinegar. Squish it around, put it in cheese cloth or a paper towel, squeeze the water out, scrape the white gunk off of the cloth or towel, and there is white glue....

Add some borax soap and the stuff becomes... weird....

Really now you have me intreaged what happens with borax?
And does it work with the Elmer's stuff I send my kids to school with?

Yep, it does indeed work with Elmer's. That was how I found out about it - I went to wash some glue out of a miniatures blister that I was using to hold the glue while flocking bases, added some borax hand soap and... goop! Then I remembered doing the same thing at home when I was but a sprout.

A very easy experiment that can be shown to the kids - and is a nice safe demonstration.

Try it out - the stuff becomes almost a rubber, and holds on to its moisture, taking a long time to dry. It will work with a large amount of water and a tiny amount of borax. It used to be sold as a toy under the trademark 'Slime'.

I believe that it is a colloidal gel.

Throw some food coloring in and have a blast. We used to do that in a kids program I helped run. We called it "gak" and I have also seen it called "gloop."

Careful with it near carpet or the coach though...

Back on topic:
We had our first snow dusting here in central Illinois yesterday morning. Temps mid-20s (Farenheit, not Celsius for our non-US friends). Day stayed cold enough that what was on my front porch was slightly slushish but still there when I got home mid afternoon.
