Id say my fave RPG is D&D just because you have total freedom. I have only been DMing for 5 months but am having a blast.. Anyone have any cool gimmicks or anything they want to share Ill listen. If were talking about videogames (I am sure were not) Id say FF7.. Id advise any serious videogamers to get RPG maker 2000 for computer.. the playstation version sucks. |

I like D&D a lot as well. 3rd edition is wonderfully done. The only thing that bugs me is that in the midst of an elegant game they still use the archaic hit point system. I'm a big fan of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay but most of my friends prefer D&D so we do that. I've been gaming for 20 years now so I've played more games than I can remember. Funny I've come full circle back to D&D. ;D |

warhammer uses hit points as well, how would you prefer to keep track of peoples life and such? |

I hear you when it comes to the full circle route Tom. We played many years ago and have only recently come back to it as "grown up" married nerds...lol. We are currently working on a really unique hit system for an upcoming complimentary WorldWorks play system. I cant say any more about it now but it will change the way people play the game (I hope)

Rein: True, WHFRP uses hit points, but it also uses a hit location system and takes into account different types of armor and where it is on the body. I prefer the hit location system cause it accurately reflects damage and makes the players "roleplay the wound". I still love D&D3e but an updated damage system would have been nice. Denny: LOL. Yup, I'm one of those grown-up married nerds too. Its interesting that when you get to a certain point in your life you want to go back to the old way of doing things (as far as gaming anyway). We also just reverted back to Warhammer 40k second edition. Keepin' it old school. |

I for one love 3rd edition.. however I much prefer some things in second.. for instance.. only 1500 for full plate?? whats with that, Paladins no longer have to quest for their Mount, Theres no more Hiding in shadows just hiding.. I love the Skills, Feats and Prestige classes though.. what about all of u? |

I quite frankly can't stand D&D3. My preferred system is GURPS, which in my opinion anyway gives you the most freedom and flexibility of any game system. It is also one of the best supported (150+ worldbooks) and doesn't use hit points. It's rather lethal, actually. But I digress. Granted, GURPS isn't for everyone, but most people I know that have tried it have ended up really liking it. |

As for favorite system. That is a hard one to pin down, since I like most games. I have played and own all listed so far except D&D2E (Owned it once. Got rid of it very shortly thereafter. That one just plain sucked! I do not consider it a version that ever existed) I have D&D3E I like it, but after playing with it several times I have found it is what I call a heavy accounting game. Almost to the point of Rolemaster, which I also have. That is what annoys me about it. It is still a good system though. I have Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and it too is a good system. Outdated but full of great, atmospheric source material. I also have GURPS and though it was a good idea when it was first created it has become to large and cumbersome for it's own good. I am currently into two different fantasy RPGs besides D&D3E. One is Lejendary Adventures, created by Gary Gygax and the other is a game called Undiscovered by Adam Theriault. I would highly recommend either game. Lejendary Adventures is designed to be simple and works very well as a simple RPG. Only three Stats! Gotta love that! Undiscovered is little more complex than Lejendary Adventures but still less accounting then D&D3E. Below our the web sites for both games to look into it more. I don't think GURPS is really all that overdone. Yes, there are a lot of options, but you don't use them all in every genre. Character creation can be a pain only if you sit down with the rulebooks and try to hack everything out via mechanics. If you have a good character concept before you start working with the mechanics, then character creation becomes rather easy. Everybody will have their own opinions about their favorite systems, to be sure. In the last fifteen years, I've played a dozen systems, all with their various strengths and weaknesses. One of the best things about RPGs is that there are so many choices in game systems and settings. Everybody can have their cake and eat it, too. |

True, True and like I said these are just my opinions. There are many RPGS out there. There is bound to be something for anyone and that's what choice is all about. All I was attempting to say was that every game has good points and bad points. The challenge is finding a game that works for you. I could go on about my opinions on all the game systems previously listed and I would, with little doubt, probably start a heated discussion, which I tend to enjoy watching how it unravels, but I am going to do the "smart" thing and let it go. I really do like arguing waaay too much! So in closing I will just say I agree with you and ask "What about Dem Bulls or Da Bears?" ;-) |

Hello, First introduced to red (pink'ish) box D&D in the early 80's. (the one with the green dragon on the front faced by the fighter with the spear and shield and the female wizard) After an on and off history of many different rpgs's, mainly D&D in its various incarnations but also tried Warhammer, MERP, a touch of Paranoia (?), Shadowrun and a sci-fi one of my own design (Traveller.. well just wasn't Star Wars you know) amongst others, its the old school D&D which remains my favourite.. simple, playable and it had that feel which kept drawing me back to it.. Nowdays, its hard to keep up with all the books/expansions. They look great but just sit on my bookshelf unused after purchase. Avon |

 Hi! I have a doubt. If I have a chain shirt with fortification moderate (75% chance no critical) and a Large metal shield with of fortification light (25% chance no critical), does the bonus of both itens stack? Or the highter that counts? Or the both counts and I must roll the dice for for both fortification? Thanks. |

 I love the fact that there's a new Savage floating around...
LordPhalanx you shouldn't worry about losing your beloved Forgotten Realms. The wonderful thing about Savage Worlds is that it can be used with any setting. In fact, the revised rulebook even includes rules for converting d20 stuff. And I believe there is at least one D&D conversion living on Savage Heroes, which robby linked to above. I'm currently using Savage Worlds to play an Iron Kingdoms game (which is d20 3.0). It only took me a couple of hours to go through the Witchfire Trilogy and revise the stats to SW for everything in there. Of course, I got excited about a lot of stuff, and developed a bunch of extra crap for the setting just because. That is something that I haven't done for gaming in, oh, about 12 years. To me, that's really the mark of a good system--that it inspires you to become more creative, and that it allows you to use that creativity within the rules. |
