Well, looks like the next edition of Warhammer Fantasy takes place in a bubble universe, after the main universe done been blowed up.... I am sure that is going to help the game's dwindling sales.... ![]() Seriously... I do not understand GW's thinking, these days. (Given that they have just ended another year of diminishing sales.... I don't think that GW knows what GW is thinking, these days.) Meanwhile Mantic is coming out with army lists for Warhammer armies in Kings of War - Ratmen (Not-Skaven) and The League of Rhordia (Not-Empire). () Gives me a place to use my steam tank. ![]() The Auld Grump |

GW is expensive, and a rather hard hobby to get into. So... lower prices, and pre-paints may help. If I could buy GW stuff pre-painted for the price they sell it now, I'd be keen. |

Is there a linkthat can perhaps clarify the bubble universe concept? |

To be fair, figure for figure, you're either getting a decent number of models or solid quality for your money (though I definitely think that their single figures are quite overpriced, no matter the quality of the sculpts). The problem, to me, is the sheer number of models that you need to run a game - even at the going rate of ~$5 a model (+$20 for the HQ, [edit] +$40 for the faction rulebook), you're looking at a bare minimum of $160(IIRC, $240 if you need the rulebook to go with it) to get a starting force going in any of their games - which is way too high an entry point to bring in new blood to their games). Ideally, you'd want something at the $30-$50 mark for a single player, or $80-$100 for 2 players to get in and learn the game (and yes, I am aware of the $100 two player packs - that's one of the few things that they've done that I like). So... I'm not really surprised that they're struggling right now. There's really no good, cheap way to try the game out; there's no quick version of the game; heck, even staying a customer of the core game gets to be a tread due to the number of times they update and rerelease the core and faction books. It's just a grind to keep up in any reasonable way - and the elitist attitude of some of the remaining fans certainly doesn't help (I actually got shut down when comparing Games Workshop miniatures to Reaper - the latter being thoroughly dismissed as a legitimate competitor by the store owner and the customers in the store - despite equitable quality and significantly lower prices on the single miniatures). |

At my FLGS I see a lot of people playing the latest prepaint miniature games. WOTC's fantasy one is doing well, as are the all the Star Wars ones. GW related tournaments are still there and relatively active. Entry entry to the hobby is least $100 for the box set, and a lot of hours to paint. Many people just don't have that kind of money and (I think) that kind of time. The store does run painting lessons for kids who are interested. However I never see new faces there. There are way way way more hobbies out there sucking up people's time. I myself, have built a PC for rendering 3D images, and am spending a fair bit of time and money on that. http://fluffybush.deviantart.com/art/Jacky-539178287 |

Can someone please clarify the "bubble universe" concept? I am very unclear about this. |

As far as I can tell, the planet Warhammer took place on exploded into several realities. One for each of the major armies. The fights now take place when one reality "bubble" overlaps another. Looks like Brets got folded into Empire. Chaos is united. High, Wood and Dark Elves(?) folded into one. Tomb Kings and Vampires are back as Undead under Nagash. Etc. I'm not sure that is the final story, but that is what I've found. |

To be fair, it is kind of an interesting idea that can really allow a lot of creativity in bringing out new factions and playing with old ones. But, for it to work, you really need to build the world from the ground up to support it - and just tossing an existing IP into it really isn't going to do it much good. Then again, we'll see how it plays out - it could be that its actually quite a good move for them, and they'll really stretch their creative legs with it to make it something that has rarely been seen before. |

The question is whether it will please its fanboys, and if it will attract new customers. A negative answer to either of those is a bad thing. |

Took the time to read the rules, as they were shown in White Dwarf. ... ... ... Gods above and below... they are awful! No attempt at balance. None, at all. ![]() I think that the game really is going to face plant. On the plus side... Mantic just reported a huge spike in pre-orders for Kings of War 2.... The Auld Grump - I wasn't expecting good... but Age of Sigmar looks like it will stink on ice. |

I downloaded all of it. I realized then, that I had no interest in reading it. Any of it. Warhammer, whether the Fantasy or 40K flavour, seems to have been left in my past. I still have some Tau miniatures I would like to expand into a gameable army, but no interest in actually playing 40K. My assorted WFB minis have been parcelled out over the years as bad guys for D&D, or traded for the D&D bad guts and occasional clickies that I needed. It's a weird feeling. I spent 20-odd years as a GW fan boy, and now... nothing. |

Yea, gotta admit, was hoping GW "may" have learned from seeing other companies chip away at their profits and market share..... but small condensed rules, ok, I can handle that... but stupid rules that can be trumped by another player "just cause"..... Take Greasus Goldtoosh... His command ability sounded awesome at first read... then you have to offer the other player a "bribe" (This can be anything you want to offer)... Of course the caveat is "If your opponent accepts your bribe then the chosen effect takes place - otherwise nothing happens..." Hmmm... Ok, I want to have unit X "Immediately Flee"... I'll take a wound ... Opponent: I want to see your wife's tits Me: Um no Opponent: ok then were done, power doesn't take effect Me: How about two wounds Opponent: How about you let me sleep with your wife..... Me: Goes to Jail for using a baseball bat on my opponent..... Oh well.... Deadpool on how long it takes GW to gasp it's last breath? I figure at least a decade.... |

Did anyone else notice the intro to Mantic's "Kings of War 2ed" was written by Rick Priestly? The spirit of the game has definitely moved on. |

Mantic just put up the test version of the Not-Tomb-Kings - . The Tomb Kings were, in my estimation, the second best realized of the Warhammer armies - having each of the main tactical choices covered. Combined with the goodies that Reaper had in their Bones Kickstarter... I have the skeleton of my skeleton army. ![]() The new boys on the block are The Empire of Dust - Evil, as opposed to the Tomb Kings' Neutral. But lookin' good. The Auld Grump |
