One of the things that I most enjoyed about Fallout 3 was the radio stations - and the vintage music playing from my Pip-Boy as I rampaged across the Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland. So, I am putting together a soundtrack for a Fallout tabletop game - hopefully both RPG and miniatures battles. So, stuff from the 1930s, mostly - The Andrew Sisters - Longtime No See Nat King Cole - Straighten Up and Fly Right And, of course - Florence Desmond - Deepest Shelter in Town (if ever I do Great Britain in Fallout.) And some Retro-Vintage - not for Fallout Cissie Redgwick - Gimme That Swing (Not vintage, but danged good swing) Faith Paloma - Upside Down The Auld Grump |

There's really quite a lot of great music that would work for that genre. Definitely grab the Foyle's War soundtrack, as that gives a great range of '30s to '40s style music (which makes sense, being set in Britain during WW2). I'd also get The Secret Sisters' Dirty Lie: And, of course, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy would give you a great mix of Swing style music to add in. As long as it all fits the tone and style, I don't see any reason not to include more modern artists and songs. After all, it shows that progress didn't end in the 50's, just the aesthetics and styles did. It's inevitable that they'd have new music playing along with the classics. |

And there is always Holly Yarbrough - I can picture battling against raiders in the city ruins to that tune... The Auld Grump |

So that's where Fred got it! You're right - that's the perfect surrealistic background music for a neighborhood battle. |

I was just going to suggest Postmodern Jukebox, but it sounds like you already are familiar with them. I really like this idea of a game set in the 30s and playing the music from that era in the background to set the stage. |
