| Post subject: | What the Dickens? A Christmas Party |
Yes, that is the event title of my annual holiday party this year. I love getting together with friends to celebrate. This year will be the first time we have a theme though. Guest are encouraged to dress as their favorite Christmas Carol character, or, barring that, as a Victorian contemporary or in steampunk style. I have made the decision to base my persona on Charles Dickens himself. I had not realized until after I had created the event that we share the exact same facial hair and I have a pretty close approximation to the hair on top of his head (although I still have a forehead, not a fivehead like him haha). So, now I am deciding on the decor, menu, and the activities for the event. For decorations, I am doing a traditional Victorian tree and all my wooden nutcrackers, but what else? Any thoughts other than the typical meat and cheese plate, crudite, etc. I am thinking a decent bread pudding for sure, but I am trying to keep it to hors-d'oeuvres and such as we will not be having a sit-down meal. For activities, we usually have a white elephant gift exchange, but this year instead of buying for that we are donating gift cards to support a family in need (Cratchet charity fund or something equally witty). My band may play a set as well, so that will be fun. Any thoughts on period items for the above would be appreciated! |

Two years ago, this went off without a hitch and everyone had a blast. I skipped last year (first time ever), but will be reviving it this year. Since I am giving myself more time to plan, I am hoping for another slam-bang event. Anyone else have any themed parties like this? Any thoughts or ideas on what worked well and what didn't? |
