Is anyone else on here trying out Starfinder? And, if so, what do you think so far? I got to play in a level 5 preview of the 3rd book of the AP at PaizoCon. And I played in 3 Starfinder Society games at GenCon. And a home group of mine just played the 1st book of the AP yesterday. There was a lot of situations where the GMs (even the Paizo designer that ran it for us at PaizoCon) weren't as familiar with the rules as they should be or had misread something. But, it feels at once simplified and at the same time over complicated compared to Pathfinder. Feats and classes are generally simpler. Combat is somewhat simpler, but I have yet to see a combat take less than 5 rounds thus far. You have a much lower to hit than in Pathfinder and do a lot less damage. (at least, at low levels) There are no iterative attacks, but everyone can make 2 attacks in a round by taking a -4 to hit. Magic has sorta been nerfed. There are only 6 levels of spells and they do NOT scale with your caster level. But they start out more powerful than equivalent spells in Pathfinder. The fireball equivalent, for example, does 10d6 dmg every time. Disintegrate, a 6th level spell so you only get it if you're a 16th level Technomancer, does 14d20 dmg. The list of spells in the game is really short. It kinda feels a little like a mix of 3.5, 4th ed and 5th ed D&D. I'm not sure I really like it. It feels a lot more restrictive thus far. A lot of character abilities are only usable once per day or reusable only after you take a 10 minute rest. The combats require everyone to take part, but it also feels like it's way more dependent upon the randomness of your d20 rolls. Playing the AP yesterday, I was the only one playing a Soldier and I got hit at least every 2 rounds of every combat. I died in the final fight. 1/2 of the rest of the party was unconscious and it was looking like it was going to be a TPK when they managed to get the enemy below his HP threshold for running away. |

Interesting. I have not played it, or really even heard about it until now. I see that it is "set thousands of years in Pathfinder's future." So that begs the question, are the systems compatible? |

Starfinder looks really interesting. Glad to see it's got a great community around it. |
