Hmmm, might as well put this up as well... Arena Works seems to be somewhat neglected. First off - BloodBowl, a game of fantasy football. Not my cup of tea, but it was the first game I ever saw Arena Works used for. (I helped build the arena, just to try AW out.) Now available free . Mongoose Publishing has Gladiator - Sands of Death for D20, and once upon a time Avalon Hill had Monster Colosseum for RuneQuest 3rd. edition. And for those with a different view of things there is Ben Hvrt by Cheapass Games, available at RPGNow.com . What other games might there be? The Auld Grump |

How about Mordeheim: Arena. Supplemental game they released on the Mordheim website awhile back. Never got around to playing it, but its basically the pit fighting thing made into its own game. Theres much more too it than that mini-game, however. |

Doh! The silly thing is that I thought of Mordheim while I was getting ready to post, then didn't mention it. A pit fighting arena is what I use the set for most of the time. ![]() I have never used the pitfighting rules from the web site, just straight Mordheim rules, since no one plays a Pit Fighter warband... A couple years ago Dragon did a gladitorial issue (303) with rules for gaining gladitorial fame, several special event-type battles and classic gladiator roles to use in D&D. It also came with a poster/tile map of an arena...but we all know which option is cooler. ;D Perhaps when I have the time and money I'll set up an ArenaWorks model with the gladiators fighting in a flooded arena, imitating old sea battles. |

by Microtactix. Link to RPGNow. Where you grab a sample game and the soon to be added expansion. From the makers of the excellent "Monster Island" and it's many expansions comes by Firefly games. (touted as an "Unreal Tournament" styled game). They are also planning an upcoming combat game based in the bloody arenas of Ancient Rome. -Floyd |
