Hmmm, went over to to do some post holiday spending. In particular I went over the PDF of 99 cent minis they have. (I have some of these from way back when they were made my a company called Metal Magic out of Germany.) Some are bad, some are good, and some are not suitable for a family envronment. The halflings are to my eye the best of the bunch, while the 'naughty' figures are generally pretty bad (the single exception being one by Sandra Garrity - which is not one of the 99 cent wonders  ).
And for those looking for furnishings for their WW terrain there are a fair number of items here and there - in particular the Elven Throne looks pretty darned spiffy. However none of those are in the 99 cent bin. Anywho, spent about thirty dollars, and got about twenty minis, not a bad haul for the outlay. The Auld Grump |

I very much like Klocke's elfs, they do not look like nice people - proud, arrogant, and a tad cruel. His dwarfs are also good. I am a fan of Bob Ollie's dwarfs and ogres, and his undead can be very good or very clunky depending. (One of the odd things in my homebrew is that dwarfs and ogres are related - dwarfs are giants, just very short giants! This is because of the similarities between Ollie's dwarfs and his ogres... Dwarfs and ogres also get along just fine in my homebrew, though not quite as well as they do in Iron Kingdoms.)
Hands are the biggest nuisance to sculpt, and all of my favorite sculptors (Ollie, Garrity, Godwin, and Klocke) do a good job on them. My own attempts at hands make it look like their fingers have no bones... In general I will take Reaper over GW any day of the week. More than half of the metal figures that I use for Mordheim are from Reaper. (I do like the older, poseable, GW plastics. Of course they are phasing them out...) The Auld Grump |

Kev White has to be one of my fave sculptors; True 28mm, anatomically accurate adventurers, zombie hunters, and a new line of fantasy orcs from Kev Adams. Whats not to love? He sculpts a lot of stuff freelance for PP (Witches of Garlghast are the first thing to come to mind) and did a lot of stuff for I-kore back in the day. |
