So I'd toyed around with the idea of doing a build of the Macross Fortress from the mini-series "Macross II". This is the SDF1 from the series we are more familiar with being known as "Robotech". Palladium games released two seperate game series for each of the distinctive anime series which are quite different from each other. The americanized version is an altered storyline which was called Robotech, the orginal series it was based off of is known as Macross, and is far superior animation to "Robotech" after the release of the first series. I ramble on
, so to continue, for those not familiar with this ship, the one more commonly known as the SDF1 (Super Dimensional Fortress). It is a massive ship big eneogh to contain a full city inside of it, with highway system. The city runs up the legs and through the central to upper part of the torso. The military is kept on upper levels and within each of the arms. For Robotech these would be the SuperCarriers (Daedalus and Prometheus), and for the Macross II version it would be 2 ARMD ships which are basically spacial aircraft carriers.
Then I got to thinking about all the parts and textures I would need to make a ship like this and realized I have more than eneogh from WW's and Ebbles to make a ship of this design, either of them. Then I got all three of the deckplan books for Macross II, including full map layouts of the Macross version of the ship. Then I though about scale, so I think to myself the ship is 1200m long, 480m wide and 320m tall...hmm, I need to convert this to gaming size(
), well it was quite a size. In scale of 5ft per 1" square, this ship would end up being 65ft long, 17ft tall, and 26ft wide
