Two Worlds Update: I'm holding off on picking this up until it's a budget price. I chatted with the guys at their booth at PAX, and they were really nice. The game sounded great. I tried the multiplayer PvP and had my rear handed to me due to lag. I know, lame excuse, but I let one of the staff take over for a minute to prove my point... my character could not land any hits as it was lagging behind ![]() I took the demo DVD away, and installed it as soon as I got home. It's not what I expected. It certainly has some interesting elements, and I kept playing it, but it was painful. The dialogue is terrible, probably due to translation, but they mix in old English with modern American to create a painfully forced result. The game itself resembles Gothic 3 far more than to Oblivion, and does not live up to the hype. The quests mostly seem flawed in the demo. The promos all rave about horse combat, so I found a horse standing around in a goblin camp, so I took it, and charged into the next goblin camp... while my hits did massive damage, the horse was very hard to control as it's not so much movement, as acceleration and deceleration. In a few seconds I had managed to run myself up onto a boulder nearby, and was stuck. I managed to free my character through a combination of dismounting and jumping, but the horse will sit there forever I fear. I tried whistling, but I had a second horse from a quest and that one arrived instead. So, my hope is that the demo is not only a small portion of the world (which I know it is) but also a bugged early version. I still found the game interesting enough to try, but not at full price ![]() Arabin |

I downloaded the demo last week and played it once. The combat is frustratingly difficult just like Gothic 3 and that was enough to put me off of even trying. |

The combat is hard, but not as hard as Gothic 3 was... plus you do have a difficulty slider to make things more doable. I found the starter fireball worked nicely on some enemies... but the magic system itself is a bit confusing ![]() ![]() It is worth putting in a little time to check it out, as the game really does have some good points... but it is such a shame that so many flaws made it in... at least to the demo. Everything is in packs, other than bears, but it teaches you to be careful, to be aware of your surroundings, and to stick to the roads where it is a little safer. It is easy to get overwhelmed, but after I dropped the difficulty a bit and starting being more cautious, I started to enjoy the game more. My main frustration with the Gothic series was that it was too hard and frustrating. Two Worlds is a bit better about that. It ran pretty smoothly on my aging PC, looking very nice (on the whole). Count Zero, I think you made the right choice. I'd be playing Bioshock if I could run it. Don't give up on Two Worlds entirely, just wait for it to drop in price. I suspect it won't take long. For the sake of SouthPeak Games, I hope they survive this and go on to produce a more polished sequel. Arabin |

Hmm, I haven't read such a bad review for some time, but take a look at this: Such a shame as it should have been great. Arabin |

For FPS type games, I much prefer to have a keyboard and mouse than a controller, so tend to stick to a PC where possible. Driving on the other hand feels more natural (?) with a controller. I believe that Two Worlds is primarily marketed to the European market... but can anyone here confirm that? The company is based in Germany I believe, and they started attempting to create too little hype, too late. Had they sent copies of the game to the major game review sites out there, they would probably have gotten some really good feedback early on. Arabin |
