I am having trouble getting myself to go see this movie, due to the dog. It seems silly that boat loads of people (characters) can die in movies, but when it comes to a dog dying, especially the one (Sam) in the movie, it makes me really depressed... I think it's mainly due to our dog, Rubi:



She's healthy, brilliant and so loyal and loving. Any dog owner knows they are with us not nearly long enough...

Anyhow, I am going to go see it, but I watched the Sam scene on YouTube to prepare myself for it! :P

Also, I know the book is much different than the movie, but I like to judge each medium on their own merit.

Literally just finished watching this....... putting the disc away as I type.

Very enjoyable, though the movie seemed to finish way too fast....... didn't seem like an hour and a half had passed!!

Like all true Brits, very sad to see Sam's ending.......... just wish the ending had a bit more oomph and meat to it 8)

Shinobi Rating - 7.5/10



Next up.......... "30 Days of Night", though I'm gonna have to wait till I get home to watch that, lunchtime's over and I have tons of work to do!! :wink:

Avoiding it - I liked the book too much to see it with Will 'Vehicle' Smith. :?

I usually loathe Will Smith & Matheson's book is one of my top five favorite books so I was completely dead set to hate the movie. This was only quantified by my love of Vincent Price's "Last Man On Earth" take on the story, and the 1970s bizarre but fun Heston take "The Omega Man", BUT I must say I have to agree with the majority hear and say it was an excellent movie. Will Smith is excellent in the lead. His relationship with the dog is very much akin to Tom Hank's relationship with "Wilson" in Castaway. The movie does a great job of making you feel alone in the world. I would also have to say it does come apart a bit in the third act and ends abruptly. I can live with that though, my only major complaint was using CGI for the "infected". I thought it to be a bit distracting and awkward.
It's definetely worth watching and enjoying for what it is.

While I think it's a fantastic movie, I wish they had made it less action and more drama. I think they lost something by going that route.

The Omega Man, while it did have quite a few action moments, portrayed R. Neville as being alone for a long time much better than I Am Legend. While I did believe that Smith's Neville had gone over the edge from an alone standpoint, I just liked Heston's Neville better.

Was a fantastic take on the story though, and while I didn’t care for what happened to Sam, I think it was handled well, including how Smith’s Neville reacted to it.

just saw the movie...it was ok...i missed bits and pieces of it.

Maybe, I missed it but it didn't seem to explain how the virsus started.

Thanks for the input.

Now, that is scary if the "things" did set the trap for Will and you know it would make sense. There was a part in the movie where Will said the 'things" were less than human and didn't have their cognitive processes working right.

I think that theory was debunked by at least the trap and then the file assault on his house as they knew to take out the lights.

Good movie but it could have been better.
