Now who's going to point out the rampant bullshit in our modern world with laser-like accuracy?

The routine of his that has stayed with me for many many years was the one he did on 'Stuff' ... the absolute burden our personal materialism places upon us. And it really resonated with me. You collect all of this 'stuff' and then have to store the 'stuff' ... can't just take off because you have to move your 'stuff' .... he just went on and on and how true it all was ... laughed through the whole thing.

But still haven't gotten around to getting rid of all my 'stuff'. Hopeless!

Sad to hear he is gone.

Well, dang. (A word that would infuriate the late Mr. Carlin.)

I am old enough to remember him as a young man, though I was much, much younger myself, in the way back then. My older sister had tape recordings of his routines, which she hid from my mom. (My dad couldn't have cared less.)

He was very good at pointing out the absurdities of our culture.

One of my friends works in an office where they had a 'moment of screaming' in remembrance of George Carlin. He's a stock broker....

It would have been more surprising if they had not had a 'rowdy moment' for John Entwhistle a few years back. The senior broker was supposedly at Woodstock when he was much younger.

Anyway, with all the recent deaths of popular people at what is considered "young" or whatever, all I can say is that the trend is that all these people lived fairly stressful lives. Especially Carlin, who had mentioned time and time again that the level of stress in his life was probably ten times that of a normal man.

I was floored when I heard he died. I had the good random fortune to have drinks with him at the Columns bar in New Orleans while he was touring in support of his "You are all Diseased" tour. Amazing, articulate man. Possibly one of the greatest social commentators and orators of the 20th century. Funny, I can remember playing my parents vinyl of his routines when I was 8 years old. He's been a major influence on my life since.

Feels like I've lost a good natured, foul mouthed uncle! Ah well, here's to all your hippy dippy weather, man. Rest in peace, George.
