I believe that the current plan is for a hardcover. I have nebulous plans for an espionage game set during the reign of Elizabeth Tudor Regina Britannia, called Gloriana, under the control of the Queen's court wizard, astrologer, and spy master . (Who's code name was 007... somehow I doubt that Flemming pulled the number out of a hat.... )

The Auld Grump

The latest news from the Crafty folks sounds very promising - making Fantasy Craft a stand alone game rather than an expansion for Spycraft. Since I know a few folks who avoid Spycraft based entirely on the name....



The Auld Grump, who's most recent steampunk/Spycraft game has not involved espionage on any level....

Spycraft is a separate game.

History goes like this:

- Alderac Entertainment Games (AEG) produced a RPG and a CCG called Spycraft. It does run on the d20 system, but it's not an expansion of Modern d20. It's a separate system.

- AEG stopped making the CCG, and then the Spycraft line was on the brink of being cancelled, due to some economic reasons in AEG. AEG wanted to focus mainly on Warlords and Legend of the Five Rings because they had become too spread out.

- The creators of the game then turned around and separated their product from the AEG line. I think they bought back their license. They went out and created their own company - Crafty Games - to support their *Craft line.

- Spycraft just uses a unique way of character creation, with rules for incorporating items and gear, a cleaned-up system of combat, and a very nice GameControl system that allows you to auto-balance your games and create nemesis groups that are on par with your characters.

Fantasycraft - and by in large the *Craft system - is a new direction that allows the company to produce new products along a similar line of development and ease-of-use.

Fragile Minds and World on Fire are two awesome PDF expansions to Spycraft. The first is great with psychological warfare and torture being two key components, and the second shows you how powerful a nicely organized campaign can become if you think ahead in terms of story, organizations and missions (and it's a pinch of the Collectable Card Game in terms of the groups involved).

Not vague at all, Grump - not considering the circumstances anyway. Thanks so much for taking the time to write it all out. It does sound rather nifty, I must admit - enough so that I'll probably spring for a PDF to check it out next time my wife replenishes my PayPal account.
