I'm starting my first time DM'ing in a week or so, and I was wondering if anybody had any ideas for music. I was thinking to use something like in the Pubs and Inns flash movie, but play it real soft, as to create some atompshere. I was also listening to some LotR tunes, and some from a computer game called Divine Divinity. If anyone has anything they could share or a good place for me to look for stuff that would be very helpful. Thanks |

If you're looking for music like in the Pubs & Inns movie, head to the library (or the local classical/folk shop if you're feeling rich) and look for Renaissance music, preferably played on period instruments. Most libraries lend CDs. I used to have a few I could recommend, but my ex has 'em all ![]() A few other good sources are (as mentioned) Enya, Loreena McKennit, Gregorian Chant, stuff like that. I have tried symphonic music in the past, but it never really seemed to work. Things like generic Celtic/New Age often work out okay for fantasy settings. One of the best sessions I ever played with music was in a World of Darkness game with Nine Inch Nails in the background. During a big urban chase/fight scene. Wow. Oh, you can also try your favourite movie music, but soundtracks seem to me to have the same drawbacks as symphonic: either too dramatic or too flat, and never at the right moment. Lastly, try listening to some internet radio stations (like with Winamp): filter for the appropriate genres (above), and take notes on what you like, then go seek it in the store (preferably on cheapo collection discs). Hope that helps, D |

I own a cool CD with really creepy music. It was called Space Music or something like this.. It was the static interferences that the Voyager sonde has recorded and was changed to hearable tones. It was ideal for a creepy Space-Horror Adventure. I dont know from what planet the CD was, but I remember that there was different planets "music", and that each planet has a other sound. ![]() |

Theres one artist that I've successfully used in several games, Bjorn Lynne. He's done a variety of fantasy music, plus several games (worms, worms 3-d, to name a couple)...here's the link: He has quite a few of free MIDI files and MP3 files to listen to. Or you can order his CD's ( I have most of them already). I also highly recommend Midnight Syndicates D&D CD, very cool for generic style of music and mood, might wanna search harder for specific tunes for your own tastes. |
