I've been told that there is a great Ice Cream place over by the Colosseum. Lostearthmother could tell you exactly where it is. |

Three words: Venice, Venice, Venice. One of the most wondrously unlikely citiies on Earth, which must be seen to be believed. Live outside to save money and take the train in in the mornings and back in the evenings. I envy you (and was going to go interrailing in September, passing through Venice and ending in Barcelona - but I bought too much computer stuff). Have fun. |

Well we have spent the past 24hrs in Roma - best fun. My wife and I start a tour for the next 16 days going right down to the heel of the country then up over the swiss boarder. After the tour we are spending four nights Venice, hopping down to Florence for three nights then it's back in Roma for three nights. Internet connections are going to be fun to find, lucky this one is a freebie in the first hotel. LostMother, we will check out the gelato - already have started. Lucky for us we have some great gelato makers in Sydney ( you have to know where though) so for us it's now comparing the Forefathers and the NeoChildren. It's the same with Espresso - we in Australia are lucky to have great coffee and skill Baristas (I should know I married one and I'm pretty damn good myself) so it's turning out to be very interesting watch and compairing. I lived in Italy for two years from 1997 to 1999 and it was fantastic. Lived two blocks from the Fontana di Trevi (the Trevi Fountain) in Roma. Walked everywhere, ate like a pig and lost weight, that's how healthful the food can be. At first I lived in Siena for a couple months to learn the language, then moved to Rome. Visited a few cities during my time there. Loved Florence too. Rome was a great place to live. Made frequent jaunts to the Vatican, of course. I'd like to return to Rome for a vacation someday with my wife - hope we can make it happen soon! |
