Going to buy a house in Powell River. I have family there and my Sweety and I are avid divers. The mortgage is going to be half of what we're paying in rent here in Vancouver and we'll be about a block from the water on a dead end street. Can't wait. |

Jacques Cousteau said it was second only to the great barrier reef for diving. I've done quite a few dives there and it is indeed gorgeous. |

Look like it is out in the boonies! But it indeed looks wonderful. |

Two ferries to get there. With this newfangled interweb thingy I reckon I can animate from virtually anywhere...Well ACTUALLY anywhere. |

That's funny, I was in Powell River for the first time a few months ago. The ferry from Comox was quite pleasant. Once the job was done in town I walked around taking pictures. It's a typical small BC town that's for sure! How I long for a bigger place to live sometimes... Hits: *Awesome scenery, really beautiful. *Lots of barge, ferry and boat traffic between Texada and the mainland. Always fun to watch. *Beautiful vintage air raid siren outside the town hall *Terrific mom and pop convenience store in the downtown area, looks like not much has changed for many years. I should dig around for pics... |

Cool. Never noticed the air raid siren! They sunk this gorgeous statue at about 50-60 feet for us all to dive on. It's amazing! http://www.escapeartist.com/efam/49/mermiad098.gif There's a gajillion wrecks too! Were you just there for a visit Paul? |

Sort of. When I had my ill-starred job with the road line painting crew, we did a couple of small jobs there and stayed overnight. The next day the 8 AM ferry turned into the noon ferry so I walked around with my camera, as I am wont to do. Wreck diving! Sounds like fun and kinda dangerous. |

I don't usually penetrate the wrecks. An overhead environment can be dangerous. I'm pretty happy to just explore the outside occasionally poking my head in:) But it can be pretty surreal coming across a sunken hulk as it begins to loom out of the darkness. Anyone who has never tried diving...should. Even if you never dive again after getting certified it would be worth the 300 bucks. |

One of the many things I'd love to try. Hey! Found those pics while I'm awaiting approval on artwork. Texada ferry, barge traffic in the morning. Knight News! I'm kinda obsessed with old corner stores. Cold Warrior. I think it's still hooked up. The big fat target of CFB Comox is visible from the town, across the strait. |

Those things are amazing. My in-laws overlook Ambleside beach and Lion's Gate Bridge. Some of those big ones look like they BARELY make it! ...EDIT... Hey! That was my 400th post! |
