Dont know that system very well, but you can always go with the J.T. Wentworth approach that I see in many rules introductions: "It's your game, use it the way you need to." If they can play tournaments in Flames of War with allies fighting each other, desert troops against winter, etc., then why not. Or, if you like the figures but want the freedom of using them in a game, look at some of the independent rules sets that arent tied down to a particular set of minis. There are at least 3 sets of rules that I know of that pretty much allow whatever army or alliance you have to be used. The hard part is finding an opponent.
