Reaper Miniatures has , after a press release by Indonesia that the price of tin would not be dropping in the near future, that they will be returning to a tin-lead alloy for miniatures production, in a new line called P65. If the line is successful we can expect to see more releases in the alloy in the future. The Auld Grump |

Will the new miniatures be significantly heavier? Enough to require additional bracing for the cardstock to support them? |

Can't blame them if their is price fixing going on with tin. Not that I've ever bought their stuff, but still. |

thank goodness! to me led is second only to resin when it comes to model materials. the tin mettles are nice but led is easy to work with. |

the white metal alloy allows for a lot greater detail than lead, but yeah resin is the way forwards. easy enough to work with in your own bedroom if you have to. |

Interesting I thought resin was supposed to be hard to work with. That the dust from sanding is so fine it required a quality breath mask. |

To me this says LE is dead, and will be cancelled. They have introduced two (and likely a third with Riech of the Dead) line of metals with out going a step forward on LE. They have 8 or so Minis still unproduced, and no news of when they will ever be seen, to me Reaper is a non entity becuase i don't paint, the only line of intrest they produced is dead in the water. As far as i can tell Reaper isn't doing anything to grow it's consumer base. They are just putting out more for the painters/mod-ers in the miniatures community, and letting the LE line sit idel, to me Reaper is now not worth my attention it's been over a year since the LE was mentioned and Chronoscope which has been out for less than what 3 months has as many miniatures shown or produced as LE. This Does not show me ANY support for the LE line so why shiould i support it if the manufacture doesn't care about it? |

Try being a CAV2 player, been waiting a year and a half for a hard copy of the rules for a game with over 100 fig's available. From the Reaper boards, there is a lot of frustration from Reapers slow paced approach to business. The 1st release of the LE mini's was not as expected so Reaper made a change and the quality improved. I think this has left them a bit cautious. I think the fig's they have released so far have been much better painted than anything from WotC, but that's just my opinion. So I have not looked at the Reaper LE in awhile. Went to the War Store to see what was available and saw . Not bad pricing, either! Uh, that said, does anyone know of pics of the second run of the LEs or who sells them or does TWS have all thats currently available? |

Yes, i know that painters are the base, why i said "grow" it, branch out an get non painters interested in thier lines becuase i don't paint and have known about Reaper for YEARS, and bought very little becuase they jsut don't produce anything i want, and wow with LE they still don't becuase they don't produce anything! I bought about 4 figs, so 1/4 of the line i could use, but that's it, and they aren't getting any more $ from me becuase they just aren't making anything. While sure LE is partly aimed at the painter who doesn't want to paint the grunts for his army, and only wants to paint the special units, that isn't really increasing thier customer base becuase it's people already buying Reapers other lines. And Yes i have heard all of the "try being an X" player the CAV lot seem to love to hold up thier role of long suffering Reaper people... but heres the thing you are already invested in CAV, they haven't done anything to get me invested in LE, and hearing all of the CAV players complaints at how sucky thier lot is, makes Reaper/LE less and less of something i will bother with, the track record of Reapers "Soon" makes me go, i got better things to spend my intrest on... |

I also suspect that LE will be a dead line soon, if not already. The folks at Reaper have not been at all happy with the quality of painting that they have been receiving from the factory, for the price that they have been paying. WotC is willing to put up with lousy paint jobs, and really does not care about their reputation as a miniatures company. Hasbro makes toys and is in the business of selling toys. They can afford to make huge orders. They are selling random packages of miniatures - much easier for a store to keep in stock. The miniatures lines support a single game each, with an existing customer base. Each set available can use up a single peg, and each set shares a single SKU. Between WotC and Hasbro they are a very big company. Reaper takes a more traditional miniatures business approach, and feels that a bad paint job reflects badly upon them. Because of individual packaging rather than random each miniature takes up space on the pegs, and each miniature has a separate SKU making it less likely that the stores will keep them completely stocked. In the main their prepainted miniatures support the same game that the WotC prepainted miniatures do. They are also a much smaller company. Trying to compete with WotC in prepainted fantasy minis is not likely to prove profitable, supply and preparation difficulties aside. Rackham is a bit different, with a much higher suggested retail price. Unlike the LE line from Reaper they are supporting a particular game, with an existing audience. Something that Reaper lacks. (Yes, I know that there are fans of CAV out there, but it just is not that big a seller - it would not support the changeover to prepainted plastics at this point.) And in the end - for reasons that escape me, the prepainted random packaging is popular. Random packaging rewards the company every time the customer does not get what he wants, then goes to buy another package to try again. Much like folks in Vegas putting another dollar in the slot machine. Hopeful as I was for LE when it was first announced, I cannot help but feel that it is a doomed attempt. The Auld Grump |

Grump, to be fair, Rackham CAN charge more as their paint jobs are much better than the shots I have seen of the LEs. |

So, I know that I will be picking up some of the leads - is anyone else planning on doing so? I have actually missed the ease of painting lead - which does a much better job of grabbing paint than does tin. I just wish the first wave was bigger.

Wow, I was just looking at their planned releases for the next few months.... FRPGames lists 60 that are either already out or on pre-order. Looks like they are really giving this a serious attempt. (Not a surprise - I believe one of the official Reaper folks had already said that the pewter price was unsustainable for miniatures.)
I cannot help but wonder where the Legendary Encounters line might be by now, had they received this level of support. I actually have their Great (purple) Worm figure.... not bad, though in this case I actually think that (way too expensive to actually buy) WotC Purple Worm is a better sculpt, and more dynamic.
