Welll... I saw this today. After Harry Knowles' biting review I was ready for the worst. I was ready for the the end...ready to strangle the last bits of life out of my SW fanboy. I steeled myself.... Hey, I kinda enjoyed it. It wasn't so bad. Hell, I'd go so far to say I enjoyed it more than TPM the first time. Sure, it was clunky, the character animation was limited, id DID feel like a TV show....blah blah. But, there were things to like. Colour me amazed. |

It actually doens't break anything from most of the sources say Hutt's are not asexual (some thing very rare in multicellular organisms) but simultaneous hermaphrodites with both sexs at once. From what you decribe it sounds like the author is going for some form of Protandry or Protogyny. And there is a Big differnce between asexual reproduction and having two sexes, and even reproducing with your self. The Bannana Slug is a simultaneous hermaphrodites and can self fertilize, and is most likely what the are going with as a basis, as "hutts are big Slugs". And sure hutts might be able to do heterogamy, but they are, should not be considred asexual and it is likely that that author/editor chose very poor words to express the idea they were trying to get acorss. True asesual doesn't have meiosis, ploidy reduction, fertilization, and fusion of gametes. Which self fertilization would. From what i remember many Hutts typically take on masculine or feminine personalities, either as a choice or to manipulate situations. I seem to remember a Dark Horse Comic with a "mom" and "dad" hutt, and a bounty hunter... i'd have to go look it up... As a hemaphrodites they can possibly reproduce with out another partner, but should not really be called asexual as it still involves the fusion of two gametes. |
