With my schedule I will be reviving this thread a year from now saying I just finished it. BTW I just finished Bioshock. A great gaming experience with only one beef...it was too easy. The final boss fight was challenging though...I was down to my last bit of health. Of course I took the nicey nice ending. Speaking also of RPG type games I have been trying out my first "modern" one, KOTOR for PC, from hated Bioware. This is the first RPG I have played since Zelda for the NES. Took me ages before I figured out the combat system so I got slaughtered a lot early on. I'll play a bit more before I pass judgment though. |

Their have been a few nods to the old Fallout games, but no experience with them is at all necessary. The gameplay borrows things from the old games, but is a whole new beast. FPS/RPG hybrid. Damned fine game. Been playing in 4 hour blocks, not leaving much time for anything else. |

A guy I know kept pestering me to try Fallout 2, never did, too bad. I did find this incredibly long illustrated playthrough..with a character with low, low intelligence. The dialogue choices are really funny, but I warn you it's a really long story. |

And like oblivion Fallout 3 is great for screen shots - if you are running a post apocalyptic game then you will almost certainly be able to create illos for your game.
In particular, it is obvious that someone did a great deal of research into how large buildings deteriorate when abandoned. Looking at the images you just know that they smell bad.  Chunks of fallen plaster, peeling paint, all in all, very impressive.
The fallen highways are also impressive - there are a few places where you can see the fallen sections through the waters of the Potomac. The whole area is done in muted browns and grays - so much so that when you find an area with green leaves on the trees it looks odd. The Auld Grump |
