Just getting into this game now that, even if I don't KNOW anyone that plays it, their are 3 GWs relatively close by and it seems to be popular in this area. Have had the Two Towers boxed set since release and been itching ever since.

Anyway, War of the Ring is coming soon and it really seems like a great game. Takes the simple and fast rules of the core game and expands it into armies (possibly bigger than Warhammer). So filling out my collection to have a small army or two. Surprisingly inexpensive for a GW game. Which brings me to the real reason I posted this.

Through a site called I discovered a shop in the UK called . Normally I would not give an overseas shop another look as shipping is usually prohibitive. Well, for an order of 2 plastic sets, a book, and a blister of 2 metal minis, the shipping is only about $7 to the US! Nice, but not a big deal if the discount isn't so great. Well, with the exchange rate as it is (about 1 to 1.44) their prices are AMAZING. 30% to 40%! And thats their normal pricing! Needless to say, they'll be getting my business VERY soon.

I had thought about this game as it's more Mass Battle (Warmaster) than WHFB. The downside is that the game is GW so it means that the plastics will be gouging all the way.

I do love the scale - it's a true gamers scales 25mm True. I would be more incline to buy minis if they were at this scale. Why - table size and scope of game play. For the same sized table you can get a hell of a lot more terrain and story onto it.

Alas this is only LotR setting. I like it but not enough to sell a kidney. Maybe with some OneMonk figures - yes.

From the site I linked to, the minis are actually fairly cheap. 24 infantry figures for $15 works out to about $0.63 per figure. Most non-historical cheap plastics I have seen run about $1 each. A full unit for WotR is 8 figures, though you can group the units into companies of up to 6. Of course for the regular LotR game, their are no unit sizes as its all single figures.

Scale wise, they are very nice figures. Like you say, true 25mm. Amazing how far away from that things have gone. 30mm look a bit cramped on the typical GW table of 6x4. These should have no such issue.

Anyway, will post some feedback on both LotR games once I get a chance to play for myself.
